Tony Gubba

Tony Gubba, who presented the darts on bbc for many years, has passed away after a short illness. He also commentated on football up until recently.

Sad news.

Re: R.I.P Sid Waddell

This is an awful day for darts. Sid Waddell was an integral part of darts longer than most people on this forum have been alive. Obviously having great characters such as Eric Bristow, Jocky Wilson and Leighton Rees helped darts in the early days but, as one or two other posters have already said, w...

Re: Jocky Wilson RIP

Even though he had been unwell for many years, it still came a shock to read that Jocky Wilson had died. Without people like him, the sport of darts would not be the spectacle that it was in the 80's and today. The fact that his passing is one of the prominent news headlines reflects the extent to w...

Re: cheating manc scum

The media and some Man City fans like to portray Ballotelli as some sort of misunderstood genius.

He's a great player, but when you see things like that then you can't help but think that he's just rotten.

Re: Tony O'Shea reveals why he turned down the PDC

On the one hand, it's disappointing that the likes of Tony O'Shea, Darryl Fitton and Scott Waites don't wish to ply their trade on a PDC oche (where the best players currently play) when they are good enough to do so and it's tedious that they keep publicly dithering on their future plans year after...

Phil Taylor to win more TV events than anyone else including the World Matchplay. James Wade to win the PDC World Championship. Co Stompe, Steve Brown, Peter Wright and Steve Beaton to drop out of the Top 32, to be replaced by Scott Rand, Kim Huybrechts, John Henderson and a high profile Q School sw...

Re: Sid Waddell

Only just seen this awful news. Sid has been part of darts longer than most people on this forum have been alive and there might be an argument for saying that without Indoor League there might not be the World Championship as we know it today. Even though he has resorted to hyperbole in his comment...

Re: Scott Waites to the PDC - Maybe, maybe not!

Getting really fed up with people like Waites saying 'maybe I'll switch, maybe I won't'. If he wants to play in the PDC, then he should get his head down, wait for the qualifying school to come round and take his chances. Unless he has an appalling week, I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't ge...

Re: Current 2012 Lakeside Qualifiers

I appreciate that the new BDO board might have bigger issues on their plate than the Lakeside qualifying criteria, but one thing they must do is to state clearly how many players get through via the table (e.g. the top 24) and how many players get through via the play-offs - ideally at the start of ...

Re: BDO Latest

Another issue is what will happen with the WDF? Croft is still a board member of that organisation as far as I'm aware. If he isn't going to step aside with dignity from the BDO - having been democratically voted off the board - does anyone seriously think he'll step aside from the WDF without a fig...

Re: BDO Latest

These are ridiculous comments from Olly Croft. To paraphrase Tommy Cox's comments in 'Blood on the Carpet', 'He'd done a wonderful job, it was time to go - but he won't go'. How can he lecture the new board when he admits to merely nodding and winking on deals with Bob Potter? The way he allowed the...

Re: The BDO AGM meeting - today - UPDATES and NEWS thread

Olly Croft REMOVED as dictator head of the BDO.

A pity he had to be pushed as he did a lot of good things for darts during the original 'boom' of the sport, but it was time to go (about 20 years ago, with hindsight).

Re: Next TV Major - 2011 Players Championship Finals

The tournament is called the Players Championship Finals. It's strange not to have the defending champ in the TV stages but Paul Nicholson has had 30+ chances to qualify and hasn't done enough to do so.

Re: State of Play as we speak so to speak

Unless Mr. Hearn says anything about Mrs. Waites' interview then its impossible to judge whether or not its had any influence in changing the Grand Slam criteria. However, if it has, then I think he is guilty of a nuclear over-reaction. Now, if he cites the declining quality in the BDO or that all p...

Re: if wolfie wins tomorrow

Only his 2007 Lakeside win will carry any sort of weight for me. That year he had to beat O'Shea, Stompe, Hankey and King - all of whom were capable of winning the title themselves. With the exception of his matches against West and Walton this year I don't think he has been put under serious pressu...
