On the BDO website:

THE DAZZLER BACK ON THE ZUIDERDUIN STAGE

It has been announced today by Promoters Zuiderduin Masters that Darryl ‘The Dazzler’ Fitton will be receiving a wildcard for this year’s Zuiderduin Masters.

Darryl was the first player to hit a ‘nine darter’ on the Masters stage in 2009 the same year he was crowned the Zuiderduin Masters Champion. The current 16th seed, who is well known for his “One Step Beyond” walk on and dark glassess, is the current German Open Champion and reached the last 16 in the inaugural BDO World Trophy.

To participate in the Zuiderduin players must be in the first 24 seedings of the ranking table. Together with Darryl a further 19 players have now qualfied to play at the tournament starting on 5th December.

In the ladies tournament 6 players will compete with 4 already qualifying. In addition the Zuiderduin Masters Youth tournament consists of 6 players and at present two boys have qualified to play on the Masters stage.

That statement is surely nonsense! Unless they are conveniently ignoring Co Stompe and any other Dutch player they add to the list!

Yes, that write-up is a complete mess. There's also the bogus casual reference to Fitton being "the current 16th seed", even though that must mean the Lakeside rankings which have zero bearing on the Zuiderduin invitations. (And in any case, if he was 16th in a relevant table, he wouldn't be needing a wildcard.)

He was there last year and was promised one last year if he returned.

Ted and Darryl still waiting to be announced I see.

Crock of shit this is, and BDO should be ashamed to be associated with it.

So 2 of my 3 I named so far are in as wildcards. Just 1 left to go. Good luck Ted

But he isnt ranked top 24 in rankings which the BDO says that he has to. So if he gets in I would expect a few players to be unhappy now that the bDo have said that.

Seems to be a case of Chinese whispers. The Dutch-language press release by the Zuiderduin promoters reads just fine, their own translation to English is already a bit strange, and then the BDO's rewrite of the English press release makes barely any sense at all. Maybe now we know the reason they usually just reprint stuff verbatim...

Translation is probably done by the guy that posts the links to the interviews on here? :D

So still 3 wildcards to go for the men???

Jamie Hughes (WAL) - assume that's the Jamie Hughes who was World Masters runner-up yesterday and thus this is a typo???
