Osborne sneaks into the WC to replace Santos
Osborne sneaks into the WC to replace Santos
EDWARD SANTOS has withdrawn from the Ladbrokes World Darts Championship, with Colin Osborne replacing the Philippines Qualifier in the preliminary round draw.
Santos had been set to make his World Championship debut at Alexandra Palace after winning the Philippines Qualifier earlier this year, but has withdrawn from the tournament due to travel problems.
His place in the preliminary round will now be taken by Osborne under PDC Rule 3.8, which states that if a player pulls out of an event after the draw has been made, the next non-qualified player from the main PDC Order of Merit will be invited to take their place.
Former Championship League Darts winner and UK Open finalist Osborne, who recently dropped out of the world's top 32, will now take on Denmark's Dennis Lindskjold in the preliminary round on Sunday December 15.
The winner will progress to face Brendan Dolan in the first round later that night.

I'm sure he won't have any travel problems getting to Hong Kong on the day he was supposed to play in Ally Pally

Lucky yes. But now here's a chance to reverse his downward slide: he's got to take this.
Classic IF he beats the qualifier AND dOLAN.
Who is next on the list if another drops out?

With him when he got the text, look at me!

Shame really. I'd rather see a new internatiional player than a spent force who's done nothing for years.
Re: Osborne sneaks into the WC to replace Santos
I think they should change rule 3.8 so that the withdrawer will be replaced by the runner-up of the same qualification-event.
Re: Osborne sneaks into the WC to replace Santos
But a lot of the time the reason for turning it down is travel visa issues which would be just as harder if not harder at shorter notice
Re: Osborne sneaks into the WC to replace Santos
Yeah, good luck organising visas that quickly.Plunged wrote:I think they should change rule 3.8 so that the withdrawer will be replaced by the runner-up of the same qualification-event.

I believe the next reserve is Scott Rand. Anyone else likely to be struggling to take up their space?

God bless the PDC for no longer using the Pro Tour OoM to fill reserve spots

this is a pdc decision so will automatically be wrong whatever they do in the eyes of some.

Hopefully not. It's painful watching Scott Rand and his terrible impression of someone who's confident / good at darts.Dannyboy wrote:I believe the next reserve is Scott Rand. Anyone else likely to be struggling to take up their space?

Lucky lucky ,win or lose can buy the missus a couple of extra prezzies.
The prospect of a Dolan/Osborne first round match doesn't get me frothing at the mouth though.

I seem to remember Rand outplaying and beating Wade and Barneveld back to back, knocked Kim Huybrechts out of the worlds last year and also beat MVG 6-1 on the protour when Van Gerwen was bashing everybody.Justin Credible wrote:FlashDarts wrote:Hopefully not.
