Ladbrokes World Championship Day 12 - Discussion
Re: Ladbrokes World Championship Day 12 - Discussion
to be honest i expected this game to be the cracker of the evening. hard to top the wright/smith game of course, but this is a bit underwhelming so far.

Really like the way Websters been playing in this tournament. Seems to be staying very cool under pressure. Picked him to win this, come on Webby!

And another (little) upset.
Webster had lots of good runs at this tournament previously and it is surely doing well for him that he sees everything past round 1 as a bonus (iirc he said that in the interview after rd 1?)

Hmm comparing himself with Kirk as a bit understatement. He did not have lots of match darts against him so far and IMO is also (not only) winning because his opponents crash.

Didnt see that one coming!
Congrats to Mr. Webster!!

Re: Ladbrokes World Championship Day 12 - Discussion
gutted to see Barney lose here, especially cause Webster wasn't playing well at all and Barney failed to take advantage of that in the seven sets they played... I thought the winner of his possible QF with Michael was gonna be the winner of the tournament. Really wanted Barney to win one more... and now with Phil out he had a good chance. He was so erratic today. Was not consistent in taking advantage of Websters silly misses and often poor scoring (<60). Wonder what Webster will do now. He's not throwing well, but winning nonetheless.

Yep, I though that was overly modest as well. If anyone's "doing a Shepherd" this year, it's James Wade!Duterprat wrote:Hmm comparing himself with Kirk as a bit understatement. He did not have lots of match darts against him so far and IMO is also (not only) winning because his opponents crash.

An enjoyable day of darts, I must say.
Great result for Devon. Thank you . Hope this strengthens the darting org in South Africa he plays in. can you imagine if he won it and the story came out he was banned, by the national org, from every comp/pub etc in SA. (now that was a great and interesting thread btw).
Though not a fan of Pipe, what happened to him? Expected him to beat Devon but didn't seem to be up for this? Was he ill or is it a case of he struggles against players who are not 'hindered' by his pace of throw? He is a good player but I wonder if a major advantage for him is his slow pace and thus as players cope against this he will sink back down the rankings?
Think Bristow said that when he was beat by a slow player (smith?) in a tournament he found the slowest players in his league/area and just played aginst them to train himself against the slower players. Wonder if Devon followed Eric's advice?

Hot Potatoes: the very best of Devo.

Barney is the most infuriating player to watch. For someone who has an army of people around him, they seem to do sod all.
When he plays at speed he rattles through legs - but there almost seems to be a tempation to try and play at a very deliberate Tayloresque pace. If you look at his throw now compared to 5-10 years ago - it is alot smoother but he seems to have sacrificed some of that edge that he had.
Always remember the game against Lewis at the WGP. Upped the pace quite considerably and it brought him through a game that Lewis was the better player in.
Seems to be style over substance.
