Suggestions for improvements to PDC.TV

Post by ChrisW »

The PDC website is an impressive vast website with lots of information.
Any suggestions for improvements to it.?
How certain hot topics for instance can be easier to find.

One thing that has always 'got my goat' is the multimedia videos that start everytime you visit.
If I want to watch a video I will click play.

I've noticed Facebook has started playing videos automatically now as well. Or is it just me?

I find the site poor.

It hardly the most up to date, roaming can be a pain most times, the number of adds a bit much.
The info is there but hardly the most user friendly

I've noticed that too, but I only use social media on my phone. I use my laptop mainly for work. Hasn't been everyday so far.

even the most basic web designer nowdays builds sites in responsive mode, the format that site uses is it dated, this centrer block template is last century.
Tab menus the most basic, layout and page optimization well behind the times.

Sorry I am pissing myself at this comment JC. 'The most basic web designer'. Pinch yourself.
Photoshopping does not make you a webdesigner. Not to this spec.

I actually agree. This one to me is awkward at very best.

They should take note from the WWE's site, that is a fantastic site with plenty of pics, vids, info on hundreds of wrestlers, a store, clips everything you could ever need; and it's easy to navigate.

The PDC site, with all due respect to them, sucks.

I think they were too ambitious when they switched to this site design last (?) year. They've included so many informative widgets, but they obviously all need to be updated by hand and inevitably they're forgotten. (See e.g. the list of upcoming tournaments at the top of the Pro Tour page.) Add in the many, many ads, and you've got a very cluttered site that tends to send people on a wild goose chase for information and then doesn't even always deliver it.

One thing that the old site did better than the new one was make old information available. Sure, it often was just a simple text link (say, to the old tournament calendars, from which you could then find old results), which is not very "modern" in appearance, but that was still better than not linking anything old at all. It's still possible to find much of that stuff on the site, but often you either need to remember exactly where it was or go through Google search, because the site's own search feature is pretty broken (why is it an "or" search?!), and the category-based navigation doesn't always help since many older articles were never tagged properly.

And then there are artices that mysteriously disappear altogether, one I came across the other day - or rather, failed to come across - was the ticket information article for last year's Gibraltar event. It's just gone, while everything else posted about the event (yes, including their statement about the phantom double) is still there.

The videos are without a doubt the one thing that stops me spending more time looking around the site. You can't open multiple pages without your computer starting to sound like its speaking in tongues.

Can't remember how I did it but I blocked those videos so don't see them on there now - they were a real pain

Some of the issues is just keeping the site up to date. Some weeks it is great, others its rubbish. One week they put the results of events in Australia the next week they don't.

Like zeyes said the next events bit is never updated quickly.

How can you have a tour of 128 players and only have 10 player profiles. They could make more of this. Linking into recent results etc. When Dartsdata thing can store the info from pro tour matches some sort of match up would be great. If you look at the ATP and the data/stats that you can access for each player is fantastic.

Why cant they add more tabs on the rankings for the Youth Tour, why stick it after the Challenger Tour?

The video thing is frustrating.

Yet again you show your complete ignorance and stupidity along with your unhealthy obsession with me, its like you feel almost threatened.

It was well known especially on TDF where you are a member I did a 6 month course on website design, and I learned about responsive websites with weeks, after getting the fundamentals of html, and java along with j query you will find any company nowdays with credibility will have a site that is responsive.

The photoshopping I do and did which I make money of was one of the reasons along with my knowledge on other computer stuff that got me the spot I wanted on that course.

I know you would love to find fault with that, but if you want to get into an argument on java , jquery, html xtml etcgo ahead
