115.80 AVERAGE AND LOSES.
115.80 AVERAGE AND LOSES.
Taylor loses 7-4 to barney with an astounding average of 115.80 with barney shooting 104.18.
Cant see that losing average ever getting beat over a reasonable distance of legs.
Suppose its not a record you want to beat anyway.

Re: 115.80 AVERAGE AND LOSES.
It's incredible. At one point, Taylor was averaging over 117 when 3-6 down, which isn't all that far away from the highest televised average of 118.66. Taylor lost because of two things, Barney's 144 after Taylor didn't go for the bull, and Taylor missing crucial doubles.
And when Barney is still capable of throwing darts like that, one wonders why he's been struggling at all in this Premier League. He's such a complex character. I believe that's Barney's 8th win over Taylor on TV, with 5 of those taking place in the period between June 2006 and June 2007.

Re: 115.80 AVERAGE AND LOSES.
Didn't see the match but it's an amazing stat...sometimes you can have a high average as you don't get a shot at a double but seeing he got 4 legs I doubt that was the case....just shows that darts is all about timing..it's about hitting your own doubles and high finishes , especially on you own throw and sometimes it doesn't matter what your opponent throws like if you do that then you've always got a chance.
Re: 115.80 AVERAGE AND LOSES.
115.80 is also the 7th highest average on TV ever.

That's crazy, with 8 doubles missed and still 115.x this would probably have been a new record with his "normal" finishing...

Trebles for show, doubles for dough - never a truer word. Quite remarkable stats

Not really, Barney won comfortably 7-4, Once again it is shown that averages don't mean jack shit, why are some so obsessed by them.devosteve wrote:Just seen this thread.

No need to tell them Ninge, I expect they know the result by now.Ginge wrote:You better tell all those county players that, Padds!Paddy McGinty wrote:Not really, Barney won comfortably 7-4, Once again it is shown that averages don't mean jack shit, why are some so obsessed by them.devosteve wrote:Just seen this thread.

Re: 115.80 AVERAGE AND LOSES.
I'll take the bait. If averages mean nothing then why would Little Richard (mc of your beloved BDO) enthuse about a player (by commenting on it from the stage when the said match was ended) hitting just short of an 100 average at the WDT?
Have you been staring directly at the sun this morning, to spot the eclipse, Paddy whilst out in the fields? It might have 'scrambled' your brains somewhat.

They are, if anything, more obsessed by averages in the BDO...a lot of selections are based on them...the county tables are very average obsessed....they only don't matter when it suits an argument
I think the fact that Taylor lost with that average is amazing and well worth discussing although I do agree the result is the only thing that really counts in any darts match and like I said darts is all about timing and hitting your own doubles at the right time....if you are throwing 15 darters on your own throw then you are going to be hard to be broken no matter how your opponent is throwing..
Re: 115.80 AVERAGE AND LOSES.
Taylor won 4 legs by large margins, Barney won 7 close legs. End of.
Re: 115.80 AVERAGE AND LOSES.
Think I saw it mentioned that in many of the legs Barney threw first in, both he and Taylor ended up on small numbers after 12 darts each. Barney then won the leg in 14/15 darts, therefore he threw almost the same number of points as Taylor but Barney did it in 2/3 more darts. Across the whole match it produces the phenomenon we saw in the averages last night, and thats even before you look at the legs Taylor threw first in.

8 times out of ten the higher average will win. This is a proven fact.Paddy McGinty wrote:Not really, Barney won comfortably 7-4, Once again it is shown that averages don't mean jack shit, why are some so obsessed by them.devosteve wrote:Just seen this thread.

Posted this on another forum a while ago, from the 2014 Pro Tour games on the live scoring - winning percentages from the perspective of the higher-average player:

Code: Select all
Diff W-L (%)
0-1 89-71 (55.6%)
1-2 88-45 (66.2%)
2-3 97-47 (67.4%)
3-4 92-38 (70.8%)
4-5 85-23 (78.7%)
5-6 80-12 (87.0%)
6-7 73-13 (84.9%)
7-8 77-2 (97.5%)
8-9 59-4 (93.7%)
9-10 54-1 (98.2%)
10-11 58-2 (96.7%)
11-12 40-3 (93.0%)
12-13 36-1 (97.3%)

Re: 115.80 AVERAGE AND LOSES.
So if there is at least a 7 point difference in the averages, the player with the lower average will lose 97 times out of 100. Seems fair enough.
Would be interesting to add in all known televised game averages into that and see if it holds true.
