The usual procedure is to roughly cut it in half from the year before....

It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if this event got 'rescheduled'.

Winners cheque going down by two thirds was an utter disgrace. Nobody can afford this comp.

When would they plan on holding a qualifier for this event then?

Common sense dictates to hold it at the Welsh Open which is 2 weeks beforehand, a good turnout would be guaranteed.

If I was the BDO today my strategy for the year would be simple:

Scrap WDT and other new comps NOW. Run all smaller events as they did last year.

Focus all attention on trying (not easy, granted) to get some sort of 2-3 year TV package (anything! highlights, small channel, whatever, anything!) for Masters (sensible small'ish venue) and Lakeside (really should try and keep lakeside as venue its 'easy' to run and well known), and make sure these events take place and are successful.

Re-trench and get spend 6 months getting ready for a well thought out 2017 season with 1 new sponsored 'Major', ideally as part of above TV package. So 6 months to find 1 Sponsor for 1 new event.

Yes it would. Unfortunately the two words common and sense don't seem to go together in the world of the BDO most of the time.

I'd get that done no problem ;-)

(anyway, that would be my strategy, not saying how easy it would be !!!!)

Surely they have to given it has run the last two years? Would be a much bigger hit than the loss of the Fish Market or Rainton Meadows events.

Have the qualifier 2 weeks prior at the Welsh Open.

I presume the old organisers won't be involved though. They should be. Could advise the expected losses.
