BDO and PDC both had darts on BBC this year. BDO had better viewing figures.

A more valid comparison than your first one, we got there in the endEcky Thump wrote:BDO and PDC both had darts on BBC this year. BDO had better viewing figures.

Dave TV will deem it a success based on viewers. And probably base it on whether viewers stayed with it during the long sessions. Who knows what their expectations were.
I would say its a 50:50 call as to whether Dave will do it again . They clearly invested serious effort in this so I wouldn't count out one more try.
With three weeks to go, and still no TV news, was the Dave experiment just for one event and they have decided not to bother again?

Nick had a similar shout with S4C.Booji Boy wrote:https://www.madeincardiff.tv/
These local stations are desperate for content. The equivalent channel round here is absolutely awful, most of the evening schedule is just a webcam from the radio station they also operate, its atrocious stuff.

still a chance. But a lot less than 50:50 now.
when are TV schedules fully confirmed -10-14 days ahead?
Re: Was the WDT a success or failure
Usually about that. We knew about Dave before the first May bank holiday last year, though. With three weeks to go though most schedulers will have firmed up plans already.Skewball wrote:looks like it.Ginge wrote:Bump.Skewball wrote:

They showed tennis last night but not their own broadcast, so much cheaper than putting your own OB on. Also last night was the first live sport they have showed since last August.

Yeah but would S4C pay for the production costs? Would the BDO?Ginge wrote:Nick had a similar shout with S4C.Booji Boy wrote:https://www.madeincardiff.tv/

Based on the lack of sponsors and ticket sales then its a clear NO.
Re: Was the WDT a success or failure
I doubt Premier Sports paid for any of the Masters production last year, they just took the Battersby web feed, no doubt the same would apply now with any broadcaster willing to take this onSkewball wrote:Yeah but would S4C pay for the production costs? If Made in Cardiff was an option, it wouldn't shock me if they showed it on all their stations. We get programmes about Bristol on their Leeds station.
Re: RE: Re: Was the WDT a success or failure
Yup the whole local TV experiment has failed. Some areas had no bids for the contract, others had one and as you say, some show the same programming. Many programmes also have cack all to do with the local area.markymark wrote:If Made in Cardiff was an option, it wouldn't shock me if they showed it on all their stations. The Black Country one was of a pretty good standard as it was run by Kaleidoscope, but that went and now we have Made in Birmingham, which is crap.nikkiboy wrote:The Oxford one now shows mostly Talking Pictures TV now

Are we at the point now where we can say Dave's flirtation with darts was a one-off? They would have picked up this event again if they were happy it with last time out....

It surely cannot be on Dave now at this short notice...Chris Mason hadn't even heard any rumours of TV coverage this time..and he had done last year....
It cannot be on a proper channel. ..a proper channel would not accept a Battersby production as meeting quality threshold....Premier Sports is niche but does show major good quality broadcasts....surely a Battersby production wouldn't meet their standards even ?....which sort of leaves Frontrunner or streaming...can't see any other option now.

The Premier Sports Winmau Masters coverage was effectively the stream of the Battersby production, wasnt it?trotter wrote:It surely cannot be on Dave now at this short notice...Chris Mason hadn't even heard any rumours of TV coverage this time..and he had done last year....

It probably was...I watched a lot of it and cannot remember !....can't see another production company actually doing it so you are probably right....Ginge wrote:The Premier Sports Winmau Masters coverage was effectively the stream of the Battersby production, wasnt it?trotter wrote:It surely cannot be on Dave now at this short notice...Chris Mason hadn't even heard any rumours of TV coverage this time..and he had done last year....

To me though it seems that Premier Sports have upped their quality in the past year....Eurosport definitely have with the new owners ....they would never accept what they used to accept from the BDO.
Re: Was the WDT a success or failure
Yup was Battersby, here is the post he made on Fanatics at the time everyone was moaning about the coverage:trotter wrote:It probably was...I watched a lot of it and cannot remember !....can't see another production company actually doing it so you are probably right....Ginge wrote:The Premier Sports Winmau Masters coverage was effectively the stream of the Battersby production, wasnt it?trotter wrote:It surely cannot be on Dave now at this short notice...Chris Mason hadn't even heard any rumours of TV coverage this time..and he had done last year....

Ahh yes...I remember those excuses now...to be honest he could just copy and paste the same excuses for every event he's ever put on whatever the channel ☺
