2017 Premier League Darts
As tickets seem to be on sale for this imminently, now seems an opportune time to discuss the 10 players (assuming the format remains unchanged) who will be competing.
(This confirms top 4 ranked + 6 wildcards)
Current rankings after 2017WC with money due to be defended removed (not added potential prize money to be won before then)
1 Michael van Gerwen Netherlands £1,119,000
2 Gary Anderson Scotland £513,000
3 Adrian Lewis England £389,500
4 Peter Wright Scotland £361,000
-------------------------------------------------------
5 Phil Taylor England £290,250
6 James Wade England £278,250
7 Michael Smith England £258,250
8 Dave Chisnall England £255,000
9 Mensur Suljovic Austria £253,750
10 Jelle Klaasen Netherlands £252,500
11 Robert Thornton Scotland £250,250
12 Kim Huybrechts Belgium £227,500
13 Ian White England £223,500
14 Benito van de Pas Netherlands £199,500
15 Raymond van Barneveld Netherlands £180,500
16 Simon Whitlock Australia £166,750
I would say MVG is a shoe-in to be number 1. The other places by no means are certain at the moment - especially if say Gary goes out in round 1 and say Jelle wins the world title!
You'd imagine one way or the other that MVG, Gary, Adie, Snakebite, Phil and Wadey will be in the PL - highly likely 4 through the OOM, and 2 through wildcards.
So - that leaves 4 to pick. Obviously, year-long performance counts for a lot, as will how they do in the WC. I think, personally, based on the above, I would currently choose Chizzy, Mensur and Jelle. The age old debate on Barney rages on, but he puts bums on seats, so is almost guaranteed an invite regardless of my opinion on whether I would pick him or not. My only other one who I would consider as deserving a place as I reckon he's had a decent season is Benito. A lot will probably argue Michael Smith and Robert Thornton are much more likely to get in ahead of the likes of Mensur and Jelle - but for me they've had their chance, and I would say haven't had as good a season.
What do we think?

Re: 2017 Premier League Darts
I think the 10 will be:
top 4: MvG, Anderson, Lewis, Taylor
Wildcards: Wright, Wade, Chisnall, Smith, Barney, Huybrechts
Why these wildcards? These players fit into the new,tv-suitable darts that is fast with a lot of triple's.

Re: 2017 Premier League Darts
Agree with you re Thornton and Smith. Unless a spectacular end to the season then both will miss out next year.
Thornton hasn't played that well this year. Smith: did sky hype him up too much? he seemed to get over his 'negativity issues' when losing but I wonder I it ios back on him. His showing on the BBC won't have helped.

Re: 2017 Premier League Darts
For me, a big performance in the W/C can tend to influence selection, but think MVG, Ando, Adie, Taylor, Snakebite and Wade are already there.
Sky will pick Barney as one of the wild cards, and probably Chizzy as well.
Final 2 places are up for grabs, and think it will be any 2 from 3 between Kim, Jelle and Suljovic, not withstanding someone winning a Major or getting to the W/C final.

I'll tell you what Steve, if he can deliver in the remaining Majors, think you will need to visit your personal physician, for him to stich your anus up.masticman wrote:Not as long as I got a hole In my arse will suljovic be in the premier league
Would love to see him play Ando in Glasgow, (oh wait a minute, did not get tickets for my local PL night, but guess spending a fortune with the PDC to go to Vegas, at least I will see some live PDC darts next year) and think he has a realistic chance of being selected.

Re: 2017 Premier League Darts
I think Wade is on dodgy ground. Few poor tv events lately, a bad Worlds and he could really slip down the rankings.
Thinking of one.
Re: 2017 Premier League Darts
Why do a lot of you guys think that Huybrechts will be in the mix? He didn't do anything special this year.
If he doesn't have a great run at the WC, he hasn't any chance for me to get in the PL.

Mensur in the PL would be like Betty Nora being a walk on girl.masticman wrote:Lol. I can't see it mate. Not cos I don't think he's a great player. Just the fact he is to slow & not a flair player for the want o a better word. Enjoy vegas pal viva Las Vegas baby

Re: 2017 Premier League Darts
For me think there is 8 dead certs in. Mgv, rvb, Taylor, Lewis, wright, chizzy. Wade, Anderson, think they will give smith another chance. 1 place left will go to klassen imo
Re: 2017 Premier League Darts
I think it is still way too early for anything meaningful to be said about PL places. MvG, Anderson and Taylor are certain, whatever happens. The rest is up for grabs for players with wins, or deep runs, at the European champs, GSOD, players champs and especially the WC.
If a player like Whitlock continues his good form, he could still be in, despite not doing much for the rest of the year.

Mensur Suljovic and Jelle Klaasen would deserve it more than kim years they both had i think they would both add to the eventschuster wrote:Why do a lot of you guys think that Huybrechts will be in the mix? He didn't do anything special this year.

Have you added winnings from World Grand Prix to these figures?crispy1978 wrote:As tickets seem to be on sale for this imminently, now seems an opportune time to discuss the 10 players (assuming the format remains unchanged) who will be competing.

When Jelle get into the top 10?
Guess there's no chance of the actual top ten getting places with him sat up there

Mvg, gando, Taylor, Wright, Lewis, Barney, Wade then any three from Smith, Huybrechts, Klaasen, Chisnall and whitlock.

Think there was a similar discussion 5-6 years ago when Justin PIpe was on top form and threatening top 6-8 in the world and almost guaranteed qualification.masticman wrote:Not as long as I got a hole In my arse will suljovic be in the premier league
