All seems a bit 2nd rate to me. Is lakeside filled with friends and family or just general fans like Patrick and his Geoff supporting mates?
are you getting excited Stevo? ......better than Xmas that's for sure.
I am sure I would thoroughly enjoy going to lakeside. Doubt I'll ever go though.

But from a TV viewing perspective the schedule doesn't seem that thrilling. Much of a muchness : same venue and same players. Feels a bit stale.

will record the ch 4 coverage. Won't see any BT coverage.

will watch the ladies games but fast forward most of the men's except the final.
Why don't you go then Stevo? you can't fully form an honest opinion about something unless you actually experienced the occasion.

I remember Paddy, at the height of the Warren Brown fiasco, saying he would never attend Lakeside again whilst the current board was in place. Must go and find the post....

I guess you mean 10 players first time in the world championships? If so out of those 10 debutants how many have played in the last 2 recently televised events at lakeside?

Here are the ten, and what we have seen them on, excluding Finder/Zuiderduin:

Raymond Smith (World Masters 2016)
Danny Noppert (World Masters 2016, Grand Slam 2016, World Trophy 2016, World Masters 2015, World Masters 2013)
Nick Kenny (World Trophy 2016, World Masters 2014)
Roger Janssen (World Trophy 2016)
Ryan Joyce (World Trophy 2016)
Davy van Baelen (World Masters 2016)
Mark McGrath (PDC World Championship 2015)

So, three tv debutants:

Tom Sawyer
Conan Whitehead
Wouter Vaes

Plus 1 (McGrath) who has never appeared at Lakeside, and three who have each been seen on telly for 1 match (Smith, Janssen, Joyce)

Anybody know the equivalent for PDC this year?

Conan Whitehead played on TV in the UK Open before, I'm pretty sure.

Sure I saw him play on one of the BDO streamed tournaments. Not sure about UK open.

See below, BOOM is correct. So we are now down to TWO TV debutants.
2013 Speedy Services UK Open
Schedule of Play – Thursday June 6
Main Stage
Preliminary Round
Robbie Green v James Wade
Vincent van der Voort v Andy Murray
First Round
Conan Whitehead v Roland Scholten
James Hubbard v John Scott
Mark Lawrence v Mensur Suljovic
Darrell Thorpe v Bunting/Sheppard
Conan won 5-4 on the main stage. He then beat Kevin Thomas 5-1 on the outside boards, before losing to Michael Mansell 8-9, again on the outside boards.

Curiously, Wiki has him as being Irish in that event, which I assume must be an error.

my point wasn't same players who had been on tv but same players who had been on tv and at lakeside this year.

Of course it will have a different feel on it with it being the world championship and a good crowd on. Lets hope they don't use lakeside again apart from this event.

Location: that's it.

went to 1st 2 WDT. Why: because they were in Blackpool and Manchester. Didn't go to the 3rd.

Went to gold cup because in Manchester.

Like going to darts but not enough to travel 'down south'.

The 16 seeds from the Masters are apparently the exact same 16 as in a couple of weeks time, and in exactly the same order as well.

Funny that, when the cut-off point was the same for both ;-)

Had it in my head one was the month after the other, it certainly used to be! But its going to lead to identical matches at the same venue weeks apart, but as long as everyone has a good time that is all that matters...

So long as there's two 17s on the dartboard, the 14 and 9 are switched over, the players are rat arsed and the fans are throwing cups of piss on each other, that's all that matters.

Yeah, they all had a good time, so why not?
