What a day in Melbourne.

10-9 close and disappointing standard win for Snakebite against Michael Smith.

If anyone doubts the willingness of players to be at this event, check out the fiercely competitive Wade-Whitlock encounter just now. Great checkouts, 180s under pressure, clutch double misses, breaks of throw aplenty. Wade somehow found himself 9-7 up, then Simon really kicked in with nothing to lose, kicking off the 17th leg with a 180, 18th leg with a 140 and luckily surviving two misses for the match from Wade (where have we seen this before??) with a nerveless D4 last dart in hand. Deciding leg kicks off 180, 174 and leaves 33 after nine darts. Checks it out on D16 for an 11-dart deciding leg and the crowd goes bonkers. Well played Simon, fortunate but brilliant!

Managed to avoid all the results.
That Cadby v Taylor match was a thriller.

As did I, but my Sky+ coverage cut off with Gurney up 6-4 against Ando.

Now that I am up to date my own observations on the quarter finals are:

Wright nearly messed up his quarter final, and I may be wrong, but looked to me as he used 3 different sets of darts in the 1st 3 legs. Surely this is not conducive to Snakebite performing at his optimum level.

Wade vs Whitlock was a close and entertaining match, and in all fairness could have went either way, but Simon was a deserving winner.

Cadby vs Taylor was the match of the night, and although Corey lost, there was no doubt, that he wasn't intimitated by Taylor and that matchnwas close.

The last game saw Daryl beat Gary for the 3rd consecutive time and in all fairness, Gurney deserved to beat him all 3 times.

Why is there no full ranking event in Australia yet?!
I agree I think they should have an event top 16 12 from pro tour top 3 Dpa rankings 1 from New Zealand

Have it over 5 day all evening sessions

I agree though think it should include a Japanese player as well as the game is. If out their with many top players personally would go

Top 16 OOM
top 10 Pro tour OOM
Top 2DPA rankings
Top DPNZ
Top PDJ rankings
1 place at an open qualifier for all Oceanic and Asian players.
Who's paying for all this?

I see the walk on lass for Taylor knew the score, she'd set off miles before he did ;-)

To have a full ranking event, there must be £4,000 minimum on offer to Last 32 losers, because otherwise players are losing money on travel. A prize money structure would/should be:

Winner: £70,000
Runner Up: £35,000
Semi Finalist: £21,000
Quarter Finalist: £12,500
Last 16: £8,000
Last 32: £4,000
Total: £325,000

Considering the Auckland event got around 10-12,000 in total for all the sessions, that could be a relatively decent pay day plus TV deals with Fox Sports and Sky New Zealand (and obviously other TV deals worldwide). I see the Melbourne event was broadcast by 14 different YV companies in around 15-20 countries, not including PDC TV.

PDT aint retiring as long as he is still capable of winning against the top players which he is he will change his mind, maybe slow down a bit but he will still do enough to qualify for the tv comps.

Michael Smith - Adam Rowe
Peter Wright - Rhys Mathewson
Daryl Gurney - Koha Kokiri
James Wade - Darren Hayes
Simon Whitlock - Justin Thompson
Philip Taylor - Kyle Anderson
Gary Anderson - Rob Szabo
Raymond van Barneveld - Corey Cadby

Barneveld gets Cadby again, what are the odds of such a draw, twice

Easy, the odds of the first draw multiplied by the odds of the second draw (unless you invent a professor).
