Anyone who is serious about darts as a career must give the pdc a go, I'm talking young chaps now. People like Tony O or Wolfie etc. will make a decent living from exhibitions but anyone now wanting to make some serious money has to go to the pdc.

What would your recommendation be to people who are more interested in sport than money?

Find a time machine a go back about 30 years or move to Cuba and start a darts organization there

I'm looking forward to the BDO going full throttle on that "just pure sport" ethos and turning the Lakeside into a proper amateur tournament that only covers players' expenses. There's clearly a demand for that out there.

It is really mind blowing the potential riches on offer for being one of the elite!

Get yourself in and around the Top 50 and you might pull the same as the national average wage!

no no no. You have forgotten the 89% to Sponsors who booked the hotels for you, you forgot the £16,000 entrance fees, the huge 1st class travelling costs (to Wigan) . Top 32 will be on the breadline and trips to the food bank.

On a serious note for a second, this probably isn't totally wise. If C4 are spending an extra £100,000 a year than the BBC (which I doubt they are); to just stick it on the prize fund is a bit short-termist.

In the last accounting period, the PDC had turnover above £19m, yet paid out less than half in prize money. The BDO need to restart building up a bigger reserve and when it grows, then reinvest in prize funds.

Example - 70k of 150k increase in World Champs goes to top 4 players. Premier League has biggest percentage increase except for European Tour events. Players Champs - 36k out of 60k increase goes to top 4.

Yes the European Tour and UK Open Final spreads the rewards better, but I can't see Lewis, Anderson or others making the effort to play in that many of the ranking events given their guaranteed income. Is that a problem?

Rising prize money in the late rounds makes it harder to unseat the incumbent top 10? That's only true if the incumbents actually keep winning that increased late-round prize money... Otherwise the effect is exactly the opposite, it benefits those on the way up who can get their big break with one or two major results as opposed to having to accumulate.

Not to mention that your argument about the World Championship late rounds is rather off-base in the first place, given that only the winner's prize is increasing by an above-average percentage, while the runner-up and the semifinalist spots are getting bumped up by smaller percentages than the overall prize fund.

Given the impact of seeding, coupled with the fact that rankings are based on prize money, I do believe that making the funds more top heavy does favour the existing elite, and makes it harder (not impossible, just harder) to join that club.
