I'm looking forward to the BDO going full throttle on that "just pure sport" ethos and turning the Lakeside into a proper amateur tournament that only covers players' expenses. There's clearly a demand for that out there.Zapp Brannigan wrote:Find a time machine a go back about 30 years or move to Cuba and start a darts organization thereRout wrote:What would your recommendation be to people who are more interested in sport than money?nikkiboy wrote:Anyone who is serious about darts as a career must give the pdc a go, I'm talking young chaps now. It is really mind blowing the potential riches on offer for being one of the elite!
Get yourself in and around the Top 50 and you might pull the same as the national average wage!

Re: Record Prize money on offer 2017
On a serious note for a second, this probably isn't totally wise. If C4 are spending an extra £100,000 a year than the BBC (which I doubt they are); to just stick it on the prize fund is a bit short-termist.Bag Carrier wrote:BDO will increase 2018 WC. You heard it here first. Channel 4 money will be used.
In the last accounting period, the PDC had turnover above £19m, yet paid out less than half in prize money. The BDO need to restart building up a bigger reserve and when it grows, then reinvest in prize funds.

Skewy is one of the good guys, damn good player as well. I think he's had his head turned with promises of hearn's gold, he's been radicalised by the pdc but me, you and Paddy will work tirelessly to bring him back into the foldifm wrote:He can't score his points through intellect so......... Becoming more top heavy overall, and will cement still further the privileges of being in the top 8/10 in the PDC. And make it harder to break into it. Example - 70k of 150k increase in World Champs goes to top 4 players. Premier League has biggest percentage increase except for European Tour events. Players Champs - 36k out of 60k increase goes to top 4.Dannyboy wrote:Bravo the PDC.
Headlines:
-£1.8m on offer to the 2018 World Championship including £400,000 for the winner and £11,000 for a 1st Round loser.
-£250,000 on offer to Premier League winner.
-£500,000 on offer at the World Matchplay; £115,000 to the winner and an increase for 1st Round losers.
-£450,000 on offer at the GSOD; £110,000 to the winner and an increase for 1st Round losers.
-£460,000 on offer at the Players Championship; £100,000 to the winner and an increase for 1st Round losers.
-£350,000 on offer at the UK Open; £70,000 to the winner and an increase for 3rd Round losers, although still nothing from Last 96 downwards.
-£200,000 on offer at WSOD Finals; £50,000 to the winner and an increase for 1st Round losers.
-£300,000 on offer at the World Cup; £60,000 to the winning pair.
-£360,000 on offer across all World Series events; £20,000 for winning each event.
-£1.62m on offer on the European Tour (a 70% increase), including a more even spread of prize money.
-£1.65m on offer on the Pro Tour, a 10% increase as a result of increased tournaments.
-£400,000 on offer to Secondary Tour events plus the World Youth Championship (a 12.5% increase).
Yes the European Tour and UK Open Final spreads the rewards better, but I can't see Lewis, Anderson or others making the effort to play in that many of the ranking events given their guaranteed income. Is that a problem?

Rising prize money in the late rounds makes it harder to unseat the incumbent top 10? That's only true if the incumbents actually keep winning that increased late-round prize money... Otherwise the effect is exactly the opposite, it benefits those on the way up who can get their big break with one or two major results as opposed to having to accumulate.Addicks Fan wrote:Becoming more top heavy overall, and will cement still further the privileges of being in the top 8/10 in the PDC. Not to mention that your argument about the World Championship late rounds is rather off-base in the first place, given that only the winner's prize is increasing by an above-average percentage, while the runner-up and the semifinalist spots are getting bumped up by smaller percentages than the overall prize fund.

Re: Record Prize money on offer 2017
Given the impact of seeding, coupled with the fact that rankings are based on prize money, I do believe that making the funds more top heavy does favour the existing elite, and makes it harder (not impossible, just harder) to join that club.Zeyes wrote:Rising prize money in the late rounds makes it harder to unseat the incumbent top 10? You're talking rubbish Addicks. The current top 4 never make semi finals. When was the last time Van Gerwen played wright?

Ha ha, yeah, so the BDO line is now that the CH4 money is a huge pot of gold that will be used to boost everything and make everything amazing....
Where does it say it's come from the BDO ???
