BDO 1995-2005
BDO 1995-2005
A change of pace topic from why is Durrant not going to the PDC. Having enjoyed this years Lakeside it made me think of the BDO legends of yester year. If you had to rank the following 10 players in order based on peak form within the BDO system after PDC split how would you rank them. Most at there best 95-05. Any other players that could be top 10?.
Walton
Burnett
Barney
Beaton

Mine would be

2,Barney
3,Fordham

Shocked at monk being there but david and Wallace wouldn't rank as high as Baxter for me even though they won it.ChrisW wrote:Tony David?

You could make arguments for David being there ahead of Wallace, but I thought Wallace was fantastic in 97 and I put Adams in because of his longevity.

Colin Monk !!!
Barney is best...both best and consistently best
Burnett was great for a year ...fantastic for that year..Tony David was great for a few months when winning Lakeside and the WDT ...Walton had a good few weeks with the Masters and Lakeside...
Adams was a consistent nearly man for years until Barney went so his peak years were after this.....
But nobody in this era of BDO darts comes consistently near Barney for me.

Re: BDO 1995-2005
1 - Wolfie. The most recognisable player in world darts, Wolfie is a true legend and ambassador for the great game. Surely it won't be long before old Liz is muttering the words, "arise Sir Martin".
2 - Barneveld. In his peak BDO years he was clearly the second best player in the world behind the camper van entertainer.
3 - Walton. Had a dominant 2001 and would have probably won the PDC world title that year too, such was his great form.
4 - Hankey. His first Lakeside win was much deserved as he was by far the best player throughout the week. Would've probably won the PDC title that year too, such was his great form.
5 - Burnett. Prior to Barney's peak, Burnett was the best player on the BDO side of the game.
6 - David. Tony David's Lakeside win is underrated. He would probably have won the PDC title that year too, such was his great form.
7 - Beaton. The Adonis was a decent champion, fully deserved his Lakeside win.
8 - Fordham. Like Beaton, Fordham fully deserved his win. If illness hadn't struck, he'd have won the champion v champion duel at the Circus Tavern.
9 - Wallace. Like Tony David, Les Wallace's win went under the radar. The best left hander in the world was a match for anyone during his golden years and would have probably won the PDC title too, such was his great form.
10 - King. Always good value but usually came up short against some of the BDO greats of the time.
I've not counted Baxter or Monk, clearly they don't deserve to be there over Tony David and Les 'McDanger' Wallace.

This applies to the era 1995-2005, as specified in the thread. Adams would be 2nd if we considered his success after Barney's switch to the PDC.

Re: BDO 1995-2005
No one seems to be addressing the 'at peak form' part of the original post. Which means either hankey or Barney are top.

Re: BDO 1995-2005
How good was Burnett?
At Lakeside 1995 he wasn't playing that great.
90.57
90.54
91.32
89.04
93.63
1997 - Taylor annihilated him in the battle of Champions.
1998 - he was playing the best standard at Lakeside only to lose his final vs Barney.
Sure he was a winner in 1994+1995. But wasn't this more a case of filling the void?

Have you seen Mace at Lakeside 2000?
Are you laughing at Mason winning at Lakeside vs Barney with an average of +100?
Or is it more funny that he took out Fordham in the quarters with a fine 5-3 win (95.64).
And if not finishing second in the legendary semis vs Hankey he would/could/should....

David - just check 2002! Winning Lakeside, WDT and Zuiderduin, beating the big ones while hitting fine AVEs.
