NDB - Dutch Darts Organisation

Post by ChrisW »

Following up on the discussion on the Dutch Open thread about how cash positive the NDB is I thought I would have a look at what they are doing right.
So NDB was formed in 1976. It has at the moment 25 regional member darts orgs. This is not complete natioanal coverage. For instance the Province (county) of Limburg is not a member. With around 1500 members. I am not sure how many other darts regional orgs are not members.

In total they have around 32,000 players playing under the NDB banner. All are paying a yearly subs to play in their own darts league and a cut of this will be going to the NDB.

Breakdown of the members (a couple I have had to estimate)

Bossche Darts Competitie 1679
Dart Vereniging Kennemerland 1050
De Darts Bond Almere 607
Darts Bond Bollenstreek Rijnland. 1179
DBMN 2400
Darts in Delft 700
Darts in Groningen en Noord Drenthe 700
Darts Organisatie Noord Holland Noord 1400
Darts Organisatie Regio Amsterdam 1200
Darts Organisatie Threant 1200
Darts Sport West Nederland 1825
Darts Vereniging Oost Nederland 2200
Darts Vereniging Stedendriehoek 1000
Friese Darts Bond 1775
Kempense Darts Organisatie 1700
Peelland Dart Bond 2000
Rijnmond Darts 700
Rivierenland Darts Bond 1200
Roosendaalse Darts Federatie 1000
Rotterdamse Darts Organisatie 1400
Sallandse Darts Competitie 1300
Tilburgse Darts Vereniging 1500
Venlose Darts Organisatie 1400
West Brabantse Darts Federatie 700
Zeeuwse Darts Federatie 500
Total 32,315

The NDB in turn then looks after the development of the sport in NL. Looks after two national competitions: the LaCo and the Superleague. A end of year Cup and League finals competition. Looks after the Youth team championships and National Ranking circuit and the Dutch Open.

So could the BDO look at this an learn something?

50 Counties in England and Wales means around 1500+ Men County Players

Super League is hard to gauge but at least 7500 rising to whatever figure

Yorkshire must have 400 playing Super League and Lancashire 500 playing

Hampshire have 182 Men playing Super League

Lancashire have 1200 odd superleague players, Yorkshire is a bigger county but don't know if their superleague is bigger, Warwickshire have around 250 I think.

Going back to the OP, I dont see what the BDO could actually do any differently anyway. They already "look after" 67 counties, 68 if you include the Scottish county of Bye, and you cant expect them to take on any more without them having to take on more staff. In any case each individual county looks after the Superleague in that area.

https://dartsnews.com/harms-no-longer-a ... onal-team/

Wesley Harms is now no longer available for the Dutch team of the NDB. The North Hollander came to this decision for various reasons. The cancellation is mainly due to the current situation at the Dutch Darts Association.
Harms in particular disagrees with the way in which the problems and persons are dealt with. In the past period, several board members, including chairman Tim Oosterbroek, decided to resign their activities to the NDB.

‘Sparky’ has made its decision known to the management and the national coach of the Dutch Darts Association. Harms now also wants to invest time in its own future, without having to take into account obligations of the Dutch team.

Has this got anything to do with the IOM or is it an internal thing NDB/DDA?

There was a vote that went against them talking to the pdc, the board ignored this so it's all falling apart.

IOM wtf is that about , talk of a promoter in holland wanting to put on an event with 20,000 euro sponsorship money , have asked NDB to apply for ranking points , seemingly the NDB refused and several leading players upset .

The whole board of the NDB (3 people) have resigned the last couple of weeks. The chairman and the other two had a conflict. The counties took a vote who to support and the chairman won. The other two resigned but now the chairman also decided to quit. The reason of the conflict? Don't know. At present there is no board and the director of the NDB, Niels de Ruiter who runs the day to day business, is recupparating of a burn-out.

Sounds like a terrible situation.
Any idea how this will be resolved?

The counties have formed a commission to find new board members.
