Re: Jersey on the brink
DARTS fans in the Island may have seen the last of the Jersey Darts Festival.
Unless a sponsor can be found in the coming days, promoter Howard Miller will cancel the professional British Darts Organisation event – just four years after its resurrection.
Coupled with increased charges at its current venue at the Royal Hotel, Miller’s application for financial support from the Tourism Development Fund has been rejected.
Miller said: ‘The JDO and I are gutted that we are being forced into this decision [to cancel], after all the work we have put in to make this one of the most popular festivals on the calendar.
‘In refusing our application it was also cited [by the TDF panel] there was no formal business plan accompanying the application. While that was true, we did have four years of successful festivals to quote, not to mention 26 years of other sporting events.'
Economic Development Minister Lyndon Farnham has since clarified the Fund's position: 'It’s a sensible but strict set of criteria because it is public money, after all.
‘After a submission has been made it goes to the Development Fund board, who consider its merit and whether it’s in line with the aims and objectives of the fund.'
Full story in Thursday's JEP.

Re: Jersey on the brink
So the application that was made was incomplete, not going to get funding then is it?
Re: Jersey on the brink
That's the way I read it too, surely they can reapply including the business plan.spaceman70 wrote:So the application that was made was incomplete, not going to get funding then is it?

Re: Jersey on the brink
I have no doubt the business plan will be fine and the event will end up being on. And if it does, maybe Sportotal can demand a £10k fee and cancel it that way

Once again you would be wrong , the amount H applied for under the terms stated didn't require a business plan . In Jersey this fund and the way it's been administered has come in for a lot of criticism , think there is a degree of deflection going on .Skewball wrote:Yeah, and in 6000 words as wellGinge wrote:Indeed but you know how these things work, it will be everyone else's fault but his own...Skewball wrote:In other words he has actually now written a fekkin business plan.

We haven't re applied for a grant as we have no confidence of it being treated fairly . But since the article and One80 darts generosity we are back on just waiting for hotel to confirm .
Will wait until H returns from IOM and see if he wants to publish the reason grant wasn't given , business plan my arse!
Re: Jersey on the brink?
Not at all Ginge just states the reason the application was turned down by the funds administrators !Ginge wrote:So, in conclusion, the Jersey Evening Post is talking crap?
H was hoping for grant to be approved but publicity gained by article has been beneficial to the event , the response has been great and has attracted money from an existing sponsor and a new one .

Pray for Ginge.
Re: Jersey on the brink?
Fair enough, assuming the addition money covers the funds that were turned down. All hail the EDO.WCDPA wrote:Not at all Ginge just states the reason the application was turned down by the funds administrators !Ginge wrote:So, in conclusion, the Jersey Evening Post is talking crap?
