Aye ok.
With the fact there is no bdo qualifier any more I wouldn't be surprised if it's the pdc setting the criteria and offered him the spot

Interesting that they are not offering the masters winner a spot though
They are. But it's Durrant who's already qualified with his Lakeside win. Remember it's the 2016 Masters winner as 2017 event is after cut off.

They have missed an opportunity to give Lisa Ashton a crack at it, Hearn stated on Twitter he wouldnt object to it.

But no, another spot for the Old Boys Travel Club instead. Darts for all, or something.

Will Ross even go if in the top 5 he never entered the qualifier when he had the chance few years ago

So who has made the call then, BDO or PDC?

I thought Wolfie would be given the vacant Masters spot but now looks good for Ross The Boss even more...

The BDO need their Top 8 players there, and should use whatever criteria necessary to ensure that happens.

Last year, despite having arguably their strongest line up available, none of their contingent managed to win a knockout match, and for me Ashton does not increase the likelihood of them doing so this year.

The pdc need Adams there, adds gravitas to the bdo side. On Ashton I'm torn, in principle it sounds great but in practice her getting beat by a qualifier will not further the ladies game at all.

Under the old Criteria the 8 BDO players would be

Durrant, Noppert, Fitton, Hughes, Waites, Smith, Veenstra, Mitchell (Champ within 3 years)

A stronger 8?

You can't just shoehorn Adams in, would smack of Rule 1.1.
If he cant qualify through the defined criteria then it's tough titties.

But could provide an upset that will be long remembered (VDV vs Ana). I say go for it and include her.

Ashton hasn't faired too well on the challenge tour, not sure what she would add to this event.

Ashton should not be now or ever in the Grand Slam of Darts

and before the pro women dart lovers get their knickers in a twist remember selecting a person based solely on their sex instead of their ability is sexist, it works both ways.
Inviting on the sole purpose of her gender is not good enough.

So that leaves her ability, and she fails here as her performances against men are appalling, look at the challenge tour.
It belittles a comp already going to have lesser players without adding her.

A stronger 8?

When was that criteria ever used?

Unless you mean the original Lakeside semi-finalists get a 2 year invite? In which case Mitchell wouldn't have qualified.

Rule 1.1?

The PDC would love Adams there and if they're calling the shots on 8 x BDO players now then I'm surprised they haven't used the spare Masters place for Adams. Of course, by the time of the cut-off Adams could well qualify by right anyway.
