World Cup Japan
Announcement From England Darts Organisation Ltd 20.00hrs 9th May, 2017
It is my regretful duty to inform all members, and players that due to financial constraints England will not be sending a squad to the World Cup in Japan. After exhausting all possible avenues of attaining sponsorship, we have not been able to secure the £30,000 possible to send the teams. We did have an option of asking the member counties to contribute, but do realise that the membership is also under severe financial limitations themselves, and are not in a position to each contribute around £800, and it would have had to been agreed by every member County of the EDO, to enable us to attend the event.
We do realise that it is the remit of the EDO to attend all International events, however the necessary funds are not in place to cover attendance at The British Internationals, The Six Nations Internationals, the Europe Cup Youth, along with the World Cup on this occasion.
Tommy Thompson
Chairman EDO.

£30,000 is a ridiculous figure
Hard to warrant sending a team at those costs

Re: World Cup Japan
Kind of on the fence here.
Not worth the money sending the team. But why should, in the future, Japan send a team to a world cup in Europe?
Will countries like Japan just see this as 'arrogance' by the UK teams? Or is the blame here to be out at the feet of the wdf or Japan for changing the venue etc?

Re: World Cup Japan
Haven't they had 4 whole years to prepare for this?

Does IFM have an opinion on this?

He said that once the official announcement was made he would be laying the boot in, as they have failed in their only remit. The Shank wrote:Does IFM have an opinion on this?
And do you know what? He is 100% right.

Re: World Cup Japan
The issue is trying to hold the event away from the hot bed of the sport when the event is not and never has been commercialised to aid in these sort of things.
Re: RE: Re: World Cup Japan
It's a "World" Cup. Therefore it can be held anywhere. In the world. The Jolly Man wrote:The issue is trying to hold the event away from the hot bed of the sport when the event is not and never has been commercialised to aid in these sort of things.
Where were the specific EDO fundraising initiatives to fund this trip that they knew about 3.5 years ago?

I bet teams from outside of Europe will now boycott the PDC world cup in retaliation.

Too expensive in my opinion. If they had gone the above posters would be all complaining it was all a jolly.
Re: World Cup Japan
Where does the £800 per county come from?
