So MVG couldnt get a win in 3 games avg well over 100 each game, then puts in his worst PL average for a very long time and smashes Smith 7-1.

Ando showing up with the very worst of his counting "skills" !

If only there were a clue somewhere as to why MVG had a bad week.

MICHAEL VAN GERWEN has vowed to win the Unibet Premier League after becoming the first player to qualify for the play-offs.

The world number one booked his place at The O2 on May 17 as he picked up three vital points at The Manchester Arena on Thursday night.

Van Gerwen now has his sights set on lifting the Premier League trophy for the fourth time after his ruthless 7-1 victory over Michael Smith and hard-fought 6-6 draw with Daryl Gurney.

“I’m going to win this one,” said Van Gerwen, who was awarded the Dutch equivalent of an MBE on Thursday.

“My focus is now on preparing for The O2 and, of course, I want to win every game.

“I think I performed well through the season even though I had a few slip-ups, but I’m happy to be in the semi-finals.

“I think I’m going to finish top of the league and hopefully I can do that by finishing the regular season with two wins.”

The three-time Premier League champion had to survive six match-darts to beat Peter Wright in last year’s final, but the Dutchman insists lifting the trophy is all that matters.

“Even if the other players get close to me, it doesn’t matter how close they get.

“As long as I win, that’s the only thing that counts.”

In his win over Smith, the Dutch star saw his average drop below 100 for the first time in 37 consecutive Premier League games, a run that stretched back to April 2016.

But Van Gerwen was focussed solely on picking up a crucial win to put him three points clear of second-placed Smith.

“There was a lot of pressure on me tonight but I felt good, I didn't make a lot of mistakes and now I can focus on The O2," the two-time World Champion added.

"I believe in myself. I know what I can do because I've been top of the table for the last five years.

"I know I can be better but it doesn't matter because I'm top of the table."

Van Gerwen will look to build on his win over Smith and secure top spot as he faces reigning World Champion Rob Cross in Birmingham on Thursday, May 3.

DARYL GURNEY still believes he can fulfil his dream of qualifying for the Unibet Premier League Play-Offs.

Gurney currently sits in fifth place ahead of his crunch clash with Michael Smith at Arena Birmingham on Thursday and is the only player outside the top four who can still qualify for the play-offs.

The Northern Ireland ace hasn’t given up hope of appearing at The O2 on May 17, despite trailing fourth-placed Gary Anderson by three points going into the final two games of the campaign.

“I’m one of the best players in the world for one reason – I never give up,” said Gurney, who battled his way to a 6-6 draw with Michael Van Gerwen last week in Manchester.

“I don’t care who I’m playing, I never, ever give up and I never give my opponent an easy game.

“I’ve been practicing really well and all I have to do is replicate that high-scoring on the Premier League stage.”

An ideal Thursday night for Gurney would see him beat Smith, followed by Raymond van Barneveld claiming at least a point against Anderson to keep his hopes alive.

Alternatively, the Northern Irishman can still qualify with a draw against Smith combined with a defeat for Anderson, while Rob Cross and Michael Smith are also still mathematically within reach.

The world number five took eight weeks to claim his first victory of the campaign, but Gurney has lost just one of his last seven matches and is loving life in the Premier League.

“It’s a tiring schedule but the way I look at the world of darts, if I start complaining then there’s another 50 people behind me that would love to take my spot so I won’t complain,” the World Grand Prix champion added.

“I joined the PDC to play against the best players in the world and that’s what I’m doing right now.

“I couldn’t wish for my life to be any other way than playing professional darts, playing in the PDC against the best in the world.”

Gurney, who recently became a dad, explained how he is embracing the challenge of balancing fatherhood and being one of the world’s best players.

“Whenever I come away for the darts I actually get more sleep now,” Gurney laughed.

“For the first time in five years I actually get more sleep away from home so I can’t wait for the next tournament so I get a few days off!”

Tickets for the Unibet Premier League's visit to Arena Birmingham on Thursday May 3 are still available, and can be purchased via www.theticketfactory.com and 0844 33 88 222.

Expect Gary to win tonight and seal his qualification for Finals night with a week to spare.

However, think Gurney will beat Bullyboy and MVG will win against Cross, so Daryl might still have a mathematical chance of qualification going into the last week at my home city of Aberdeen.

Decent start Chris, but it is all about the Double points match. Last week I only got 1 result right, but because I got 16 points for that match it was enough to win the weekly competition.

Just had the double point correct score on that first match
Well done Phil.

Have to say was surprised to see that you are only 23 years of age. Your knowledge of darts vastly exceeds expectations of your age. :DDDD:

Ffs, I am 54 and still know fuck all.

Excellent performance from MvG. Cross missed the powerscoring to do anything about that.

Well that's me fucked for winning the weekly competition.

Had MVG to beat Cross 7-3 as my Double points match.

Just hope I can hang on in the overall standings going into the last 2 weeks.

Gurney should practice switching to 19's or 18's. That bed was completely blocked.
