Re: 2018 Premier League
Hearn saying there will be shocks and disappointmeets probably just means no Wade or Chizzy...when all darts fans wouldn't see that as a shock or a disappointment at all....but many casual PL fans would
I've always said Lewis would get a Sky pick..and I'm sure he will.....

The Sky Picks have Raymond van Barneveld and Adrian Lewis assigned next to them.....trotter wrote:Hearn saying there will be shocks and disappointmeets probably just means no Wade or Chizzy...when all darts fans wouldn't see that as a shock or a disappointment at all....but many casual PL fans would

Re: 2018 Premier League
Does anyone seriously think loads of "fans" will decide not to go to a PL night just because Adrian Lewis isn't playing?

No. But I'm sure that Sky would want a big name.andyc wrote:Does anyone seriously think loads of "fans" will decide not to go to a PL night just because Adrian Lewis isn't playing?

It’s not the fans in attendance who matter as most venues already sold out.andyc wrote:Does anyone seriously think loads of "fans" will decide not to go to a PL night just because Adrian Lewis isn't playing?
What is important with PL is the audience it draws to Sky Sports and to casual darts watchers, of the players outside the top 4 the two names who attract viewers are Barrie and Adrian Lewis. This is why Sky as one of the bankrollers of the event get two picks they want names which the public know, not those on darts forums.
If Taylor had carried on playing rather than retiring I am sure Sky would have continued to pick him if not chosen by PDC no matter how low his OOM ranking went.
Re: 2018 Premier League
I'm going to predict:
Top 4 World Rankings
Michael van Gerwen, Peter Wright, Gary Anderson, Daryl Gurney
PDC Wildcards
Rob Cross, Mensur Suljovic, Simon Whitlock, Gerwyn Price
Sky Sports Wildcards
Raymond van Barneveld, Dimitri van den Bergh
Notable mentions for Adrian Lewis, James Wade, Max Hopp and Devon Petersen for only just missing the cut.

Re: 2018 Premier League
MvG, Anderson, Wright, Gurney, Suljovic, Cross, Barney and Price are certainty. Other two places are hard to predict... If I had to make a decision, I would give a chance to one youngster (van den Bergh or J. Lewis) and one Australian (probably Kyle as he won a tournament and was more consistent over the year). Although I have a feeling that Sky will give a wildcard to someone who didn't deserve but makes a good show. Lewis and Chisnall for example...
Re: 2018 Premier League
Agree with you that Sky will almost certainly pick a British player alongside Barnie who also has massive name recognition amongst casual fans here. Hence I agree Chisnall or Lewis although I favour Lewis as their pick given his world titles.
They would never pick a European like van der Bergh as unknown to the casual darts watcher on Sky and does nothing to generate UK subscriptions to Sky or NowTV.
If anyone picks van der Bergh it’s one of the PDC wildcards but with two Dutch and an Austrian in they probably think they have enough from Europe so an Australian is a good call.

I know there's barely a chance but what about Lim, if there after new markets maybe this would be the way to go?
