Still wonder how they are planning to fill the invitational places in the tournament. 24 feels too many for me. Don't see why the 4 places for the Europeans have been taken away - the players that qualified via that route had usually played most of the tour and weren't far short of qualifying via the standard 16 ProTour places (I know that there is the argument that if they were good enough they should've qualified via top 32 OOM or top 16 ProTour). Having looked at the players that have qualified that way over the last few tournaments, some of them have used it as a springboard to better things (Suljovic qualified that way in 2015, Wattimena in 2016). Perhaps more deserving than, say, giving four spots to the PDPA qualifier last year...
Personally would be in favour of inviting the winners (and possibly the runners up) of the Challenge and Development tours. Also thought that they could invite the highest ranked player on the main OOM without tour card (Lerchbacher, Ratajski and Jacques currently in line to qualify so would go to Peter Hudson - £15,500 on the pro tour without a tour card is decent going).
We know that they won't do wildcards so having a third of the field qualify mainly through one off qualifiers seems a bit much to me. Either way, it'll still be a great tourney.

I think the 4 additional places for Europeans were totally fair. The UK players have a massive advantage as the pro tour events are all in England. People like Hopp or Van den Bergh, who are definitely good enough to play the WC, qualified via that route in 2017. Also it helps with the progress of darts in mainland Europe.footballafc wrote:Still wonder how they are planning to fill the invitational places in the tournament. 24 feels too many for me. They should have either kept the 4 places for European players, or simply have 20 players qualify through the Pro Tour OoM.
I really hope there will be no more than 2 PDPA qualifiers, but I reckon it'll be 3 or 4.

I'm a bit confused as different sources have slightly different qualification tables.oche balboa wrote:Who would be the 4 leading Europeans?
Looks like Dirk van Duijvenbode, Jeffrey de Graaf, Martin Schindler and Mike de Decker at the moment. Ratajski could miss out on the Worlds as well.
For comparison, the next 4, currently not qualified British players are Steve Lennon, Robbie Green, Chris Quantock and Ryan Searle.
Both bunch of players look much better than the dross that is going to come out of the PDPA qualifiers. Not even talking about international, that's a different matter.
Re: 2018 PDC World Championship- Alexandra Palace, London-14th December 2017- 1st January 2018
Ratajski would not be one of the best 4 Europeans not qualified?!
That doesn't sound right, hasn't he won about £20k this year?

He's won £19k, 16th place is at £18.5k at the moment.Ginge wrote:Ratajski would not be one of the best 4 Europeans not qualified?!

Only qualified for 1 of the 2 ET events and obviously won't play the PC's in Dublin
He's far from safe right now.

What I wrote above is about him qualifying for the Worlds
He would be in the top 4 Europeans, he's not one of them because he is qualified at the moment
Re: RE: Re: 2018 PDC World Championship- Alexandra Palace, London-14th December 2017- 1st January 2018
Yeah that's 16th place out of everyone outside the top 32 on the main OoM.26scored wrote:He's won £19k, 16th place is at £18.5k at the moment.Ginge wrote:Ratajski would not be one of the best 4 Europeans not qualified?!

If they bring back the top 4 Europeans in the one year list not already qualified (after taking the top 16 out) he would easily get in.
EDIT - aha, just seen your extra post.

Anyone knows about South African qualifier? Looks like it would be the last chance to see Devon at Worlds. Last year there wasn't place for Africans, but maybe this year will be...

With minimum money added to tentative major qualifiers, Snakebite is closing rapidly on Ando for the #2 seeding. Data courtesy of Burton.

Hearn has confirmed on Twitter that the 4 Euro spots won't be added back in.
So where are these 4 spaces going to be used?
