Dont think the criteria for this event was set before now but its clear as day why they have changed it.

It's almost like they make it up as they go along.

Devo is confused.

The viewing figures were rubbish compared to what the bdo got on this channel. But no bdo and more pdc!

Same 8 players ((kind of) and folk are bored stiff.

Same format: who is interested in that?

The bubble is bursting and yet here we have a 2 yr contract. Pretty good really.

The lakeside is tied up with channel 4 this year.

I hate the shoehorning of people into ranking comps like barney in the GSoD

however this differs in 2 areas....one is that it is a glorified exbo, so no different to a world series or premier league.

Secondly its a new comp that needs to establish a foothold on BBC and having a player, who happens to be possibly the most famous player in darts over the last quarter century, plus a crowd drawer, as well as its reigning champion is a sound business decision.

I have no doubt bitter short arsed defective pygmies will try find fault as would I if it were an event like the matchplay of some proper comp, but the CLoD is as said non ranking glorified exbo for the sole purpose of establishing the PDC on BBC.
i am so sorry for my actions these last ten years, i'm going through a tough time

BBC is saving money. PDC were desperate to get on the BBC and gave them this whereas Lakeside is an expensive premium product for which the BBC no longer wished to get into an auction for.

Very good :D

But but but the BBC could have got the WDT and Masters for nowt!!! Surely they would want to show official regulated darts over this exbo rubbish? ;)

That sky channel already had the rights to the WDT and I hardly think you would get the second most prestigious tournament in the world (The Masters) for nothing.

It's almost effortless for them to get big money events with big money sponsors and TV coverage.

Whats the fuss?

Its a non ranking event. I dont have any problem with Taylor getting shoehorned in.

Indeed. The same people who have the Mock outrage are the same ones who condemn exbo type events and claim to never watch them anyway. Quite bizare really. They are what they are. I include PL. WOrld Series, Champions LEague, World Cup etc etc as events to raise profile, made for TV, made for money (PL) and so on. Why the big fuss over 'qualification' for these events is beyond me.

I'm just hoping that van Barneveld is in 8th place at the cutoff date. :)

The same people that see no issue with major tournaments having wildcard sports to shoehorn their favourite players in
