All true points. I suppose they aren't changing the format of ranking finals with a few minutes notice...

Its a non ranking event. I dont have any problem with Taylor getting shoehorned in.
Indeed. The same people who have the Mock outrage are the same ones who condemn exbo type events and claim to never watch them anyway. Quite bizare really. They are what they are. I include PL. WOrld Series, Champions LEague, World Cup etc etc as events to raise profile, made for TV, made for money (PL) and so on. Why the big fuss over 'qualification' for these events is beyond me.
The same people that see no issue with major tournaments having wildcard sports to shoehorn their favourite players in
Yeah, ranking events need to be kept 'pure'. Although let's not forget that golf and tennis don't have an issue with it so we should perhaps not be too precious.

And that's why Hearn controls the PDC.

What has shoehorning a player into a pdc tournament got to do with Barry Hearn?

Is it because it's on on a Saturday afternoon and Barney won't be there? :D

I think now is a good time to remind everyone that this tournament got significantly less viewers than a bdo tournament did on the same channel.

I know Devo already touched upon it, but I just felt it needed clearing up.

But as said Lakeside cost the BBC money both to buy the TV rights and to film it. That was the reason the BBC shared Lakeside first with ESPN and then BT to share the costs especially as the BBC didn't really want evening weekday coverage. Like the early stages of the World Snooker these are now pushed to red button or online.

As said the PDC seem to be giving this away as a free teaser to get a wider public interested in PDC darts.

No need to sell yourself short. They kept it on terrestrial tv anyway. The BBC got what they paid for. Pay for an inferior product and get much less viewers.

The viewing figures were rubbish compared to what the bdo got on this channel. But no bdo and more pdc!

Same 8 players ((kind of) and folk are bored stiff.

Same format: who is interested in that?

The bubble is bursting and yet here we have a 2 yr contract. Pretty good really.

I think to many tv event have the same best of 19 then 21 finals they should change at least 1 of them why not make best of 5 sets groups stage 7 seats semi final

1. I understand the PDC shoehorning Taylor as a defending Champion of the Tournament and also in his last year at the PDC circuit for this Tournament.

2. If it's instead of Wade it might serves him right so that he wakes up in his game because James is a better player than his current form justifies right now.

3. If it's again Klaasen who has to give up the place I really have to feel for the guy but we'll have to see who's the real victim after the Matchplay I presume, (and if as someone suggested, Barney would be the victim it will be very interesting to see what will happen next)....
