FrontRunner pulled from Freeview and Freesat
FrontRunner pulled from Freeview and Freesat
Thought others would be interested as the BDO fans see FrontRunner as their TV saviours.
After being pulled from Freeview / Youview it has now also been removed from Freesat.
Here's their press release saying they will be only on Sky whilst they consider other options.

So if they go streaming rather than TV why pay when you can stream for free on YouTube.

its only 2 days old news and needs is own thread. I had not realised that on Saturday. Not everyone, unlike yourself Ian, are obsessed with looking here every day.

How much sport, that a large enough people want to see, is not already shown on the main FTA channels, or Sky, BT, Eurosport and even Premier?
Re: FrontRunner pulled from Freeview and Freesat
Well I was only here for a couple of hours at the weekend so don't have time to trawl all the BDO threads. I saw this on some of the TV forums I subscribe to.
Has someone else posted the link I have ? Shows FrontRunner is now only on Sky.
I can understand them going off Freeview as even on the cheap temporary multiplex they moved to recently it still costs serious money.
Freesat is more surprising as they still have the satellite transmission costs so going off Freesat only saves a few thousand in EPG costs. However by staying on Sky they can agree to encryption so even if Sky give them no money out of the monthly subscription they waive the EPG costs as may encourage someone to subscribe.
Anyway outside Greyhound Racing shows they must be in a perilous financial position.

Re: FrontRunner pulled from Freeview and Freesat
Well I can see it makes senses for Greyhound Racing as that only exists for the betting hence the coverage is funded by the tracks and bookmakers hoping viewers place a bet and unlike horse racing they are not prepared to pay for their own TV channel. Hence why no equivalent of RacingUK or AtTheRaces.markymark wrote:How much sport, that a large enough people want to see, is not already shown on the main FTA channels, or Sky, BT, Eurosport and even Premier?
Anything else is just an ego trip by the sports paying to say they are on TV. Would be better to pay for Facebook or YouTube streaming and targeted Facebook advertising, but others here have suggested that already.
Re: FrontRunner pulled from Freeview and Freesat
Ha, no FrontRunner viewing figures have been made public for the week ending 18th June.
Have the EDO pulled the same trick as the BDO and asked them to withhold them?

They tried it in the early days of Sky Digital with Go Barking Mad but didn't last long. Greyhound racing is in a massive slump.malcy93 wrote:Well I can see it makes senses for Greyhound Racing as that only exists for the betting hence the coverage is funded by the tracks and bookmakers hoping viewers place a bet and unlike horse racing they are not prepared to pay for their own TV channel. As you say though, there's a strategy for why they put it on this channel (and Information TV before that) but not sure what the strategy is for EDO/BDO tournaments on FR.

Anyone know the costs of this type of channel on freeview per annum?malcy93 wrote:Well I was only here for a couple of hours at the weekend so don't have time to trawl all the BDO threads. I saw this on some of the TV forums I subscribe to.

An SD channel on these HD multiplexes only takes 1/5 to 1/6 of the space of an HD channel so I presume costs are pro-ratted.
With no takers for HD beyond BBC, C4 and QVC putting up a couple each this is why eventually they offered to SD channels and a few moved over to gave costs like Vintage TV and FR. Is short sighted as the channels get chucked off air in a couple of years.

It also helps when the parent company covering you is a self proclaimed specialist in buying and selling slots on sky and freeview.malcy93 wrote:An SD channel on these HD multiplexes only takes 1/5 to 1/6 of the space of an HD channel so I presume costs are pro-ratted.

Information tv knew what was going to happen from day one. Get front runner to pick up the slot, help with initial advertising and funds, wait a year for it to all go tits up and not have the money to cover the costs, take the slot back of them, sell it on to the next up and coming channel
