Re: Olympic darts
I see this has the grubby hands of the WDF all over it. Maybe they should be more worried about how their showpiece event in a few months wont have most of the big darting orgs in attendance, than pursuing something that will make the game of darts a global laughing stock.

"The fact is, though, that darts is the fastest growing sport on the continent, and second in Sky Sports viewing figures – after only Premier League football."
To the tower with this liar.

Re: Olympic darts
A good start for future inclusion of a sport in the Olympics is generally made by leaving a good impression as part of the World Games. Oh, wait, the World Games are currently happening and darts is nowhere to be seen. Yep, good luck with 2024 and 2028.
Re: Olympic darts
It's almost as if it's a pointless article designed to get people clicking on a website they've never heard of.

Re: Olympic darts
Ok so wdf do all the work to get darts this close to the olympics but the guy writing the article can only talk about the pdc and what that is doing.

Quite....markymark wrote:It's almost as if people have formed their opinions based on the quotes from the heads of the darts organisations in the article.

Re: Olympic darts
The PDC are driving a big growth in darts on continental Europe and beyond with the Euro tour and world series. Had it not been for the commercial success of darts in the last 10 years or so then I doubt it would be in contention for the Olympics. The Jolly Man wrote:Ok so wdf do all the work to get darts this close to the olympics but the guy writing the article can only talk about the pdc and what that is doing.
If the WDF are also successful in driving participation up then it's just good news for the game all round.
Re: Olympic darts
Darts is far from an Olympic sport. Too little nationalities competing at the World Championship (needs to be minimal 55 nationalities at the WCs). And 99 percent of the field needs to be replaced because they do not count as sports men. Only Joe Cullen and Steve Beaton are fit enough to be called Olympic.

So Gerwyn Price is not...Bram_1900 wrote:Darts is far from an Olympic sport. Too little nationalities competing at the World Championship (needs to be minimal 55 nationalities at the WCs). Re: Olympic darts
What is fit enough? Go on ask usain bolt to run 5 miles. Or the super heavyweight judo guys. Or the weight lifters to do a sprint under 12 seconds. Or event the archers through a discus over 40m. What the heck is "fit enough"Bram_1900 wrote:Darts is far from an Olympic sport. Too little nationalities competing at the World Championship (needs to be minimal 55 nationalities at the WCs). First comment is also wrong. Football doesn't have 55 nationalities at its World Cup neither does rugby 7s etc

How many try and qualify? Lots more than 55The Jolly Man wrote:What is fit enough? Go on ask usain bolt to run 5 miles. Or the super heavyweight judo guys. The closest darts will get to the Olympics is the breakfast at Little Chef.

Rugby 7's looks like about 50-60 countries took part in qualyfing.Ginge wrote:How many try and qualify? Lots more than 55The Jolly Man wrote:What is fit enough? Go on ask usain bolt to run 5 miles. Darts will never get anywhere near the Olympics. it is a stupid debate.
Re: Olympic darts
Any fan of the game of darts wouldnt actually want to see it anywhere near the Olympics, IMO.

Re: Olympic darts
I thought the issue was if you get the sport considered for the Olympics even if it's never selected as one of the events it makes that sport eligible for state funding in some countries particularly in Asia. That's why the likes of rugby union and cricket originally applied.
Is the 55 countries issue just the minimum number of countries who have to be affiliated to the world body to be Olympics eligible. I remember last time we discussed here someone collated the list and it just scraped over 55 ?
