Phil Taylor - should he retire?
Phil Taylor - should he retire?
Love him or hate him - surely the level he has played at this week begs the question? He clearly still has a lot to offer on the oche and will probably now go into the World Championships as second favourite. I personally believe he decided to retire because he couldn't get past MVG and didn't want to play second fiddle to anyone. Will this week change his mind? Should it change his mind?
Re: Phil Taylor - should he retire?
If I had to put money on him playing this event next year or not playing it, and you gave me even money for both, I'd put my not so hard earned on the former.

I'd be surprised if Phil continues beyond the Worlds next year - he has repeated this in every interview since admitting in January he was retiring. He seems pretty set on it.

I said it before and still believe he will be in the PL again.Murphio wrote:Love him or hate him - surely the level he has played at this week begs the question? He is automatic qualifying spot now again after his win tonight.
Love him or hate him, he has a huge ego, all the greats do, and think he might do another PL
i am so sorry for my actions these last ten years, i'm going through a tough time
Re: Phil Taylor - should he retire?
So would I at 6 and a half grand plus VAT a pop for an exbo.

I actually agree. Having played as well as he did this week, would not surprise me if he played the PL, Matchplay, Grand Prix and Grand Slam in 2018.Garry Murphy wrote:I said it before and still believe he will be in the PL again.Murphio wrote:Love him or hate him - surely the level he has played at this week begs the question? I think he genuinely had decided to retire, but I would be pretty sure Barry Hearn would be encouraging him to stay on a bit longer than he intended.

Re: Phil Taylor - should he retire?
Surely if he qualifies for all the Majors by right it would be insane to turn them down?
Re: Phil Taylor - should he retire?
That question doesn't seemed to have been asked to him yet by the journos.Murphio wrote:Surely if he qualifies for all the Majors by right it would be insane to turn them down?

Re: Phil Taylor - should he retire?
I think he's too head strong and will retire. I think he is actually playing well as his mind is set. No worrying about ranking for next year etc.
Thinking of one.
Re: Phil Taylor - should he retire?
He'd be walking away from lots and lots of money - and that wouldn't be like him.ChrisW wrote:That question doesn't seemed to have been asked to him yet by the journos.Murphio wrote:Surely if he qualifies for all the Majors by right it would be insane to turn them down?

Phil Taylor - should he retire?
I'll put money on he has a year or two off and sky make a massive meal about him starting from scratch in a bid to win another world title
The thing to remember is he was slightly lucky this week, Barney out of sorts, mvg missing doubles, Lewis basically just happy he made the semi final and wright with a shit half draw and couldn't step up in the final
Any of those players could beat him if they are playing their A game just none of them did.
Taylor knows this and it why he resorts to mind games. This is a win win for him he can walk away at the end of the year knowing at least he won the 2nd biggest major and all the talk will be on him in a few years when he has one more crack

I think now that he won the Matchplay is a great year to retire. This is the way to do it
