If the World Championship left Lakeside...

Post by Dannyboy »

...what would be the response from the public, darting fraternity, media, players, administrators etc? Just a theoretical scenario as the other thread. Either BDO-led or Lakeside-led.

From a playing perspective, what is there to offer for a top player?

From the media and TV, Lakeside is seen as one of those fairytale sporting venues and one thing that is a feather in the BDO cap against the PDC.

From a spectating perspective, people wouldn't make the same pilgrimages as they do every year.

The tournament would surely cease to exist?

It can't leave, it needs lakeside more than lakeside needs it. The Williams' have lined up Treorchy labour club just in case though.

It's a shame the fanboys can't whip up as much enthusiasm to talk about the brilliantly entertaining pdc darts taking place this weekend as they do about this sort of thing

It survived leaving Jollees and that was considered the home of world darts and the home of most of the classic Bristow wins

Just seen this on the announcement about Lakeside tickets available from this weekend:
Hotel packages are not available this year
Anything to read into this other than he has worked out he can make more money doing the hotel room separately?

The folks to ask would be those from here who have an annual pilgrimage to lakeside. They talk about the atmosphere of the venue.

Would they 100% go if it changed venue?

They left this in, too:

""The championships watched by millions on television in UK, Europe and around the globe. They have largest TV audience for darts anywhere in the world. "

Any luck, lads?
