The game is going to miss Taylor. For all his antics he is the man to watch. We will miss Taylor on here. The game needs characters and he is the biggest name in darts. Obviously like most I am not a massive fan of him personally but were deluding oursleves if we don't think his retirement will have an impact on the game in someway. (and I talking generally, not the 50 regular darts geeks who post on here, myself included)

I'm glad in a way he's finished because I don't like him and his antics are a bit tiring to say the least.

But sadly, even being way past his prime, he's still the most likely man to beat MVG. He could win multiple TV titles if he kept on for a year or two.

That's not bad for a new comp.

14% increase on last year and still more viewers than the showpiece final from the BDOs jewel in the crown.
The bubble closer to bursting.

Quite, more people watched this on BBC TWO than watched the Lakeside final on Channel 4, had to happen eventually.

But in any case, viewing figures dont matter anymore, or so we are told.

This glorified exbo with no history, featuring the same players, got more viewers than lakeside final. Well done to the board. Way to go!

Not sure if .97 million is a good figure but the 14% increase sure is. Was it just a 2 year contract?

Remarkably close to the Lakeside final viewing figures. Would suggest that is about the market figure now for free to air terrestrial TV darts regardless of the code. It also means though the BDO must surely keep Lakeside on one of the five main channels if it doesn't want pushed out of the picture completely. PDC darts would become the face of darts for the non dart fan - for maybe the first time.

Surely it already is? Taylor and MvG much higher in the public consciousness than Durrant and...erm...McGeeney?

oh God yeah, I get non darts followers mentioning Gar ANderson and Peter Wright and even Mensur last week. (both comments about his funny throw and 'did he that comp' but nevertheless, its PDC players that get talked about)

Somebody mentioned James Hurrell to me last month, proof that the BDO is number one.
