Toon Greebe booked his first major success on the darts circuit last week after his foot amputation at the end of 2017.
The darter from Den Bosch has found its way up again, witness his final victory at the Polish Open in Poland. "What was that fat," Greebe looks back in conversation with Omroep Brabant .
“It is without a doubt my biggest title. Very special. Before my amputation I had never won such a big tournament. It now feels as if I have really left the rotten period behind me. "
Greebe faced a huge setback in December 2017. Due to an infection in his foot, his foot had to be amputated in the hospital. As a result of this operation, the Dutchman is walking with a prosthesis. He can also use this during darts.
“I just got the final tube for my stump. I have to do this for the rest of my life. This fits precisely, so I can remain very stable. Also during the darts. "

Attempt at Q-School
Greebe made an attempt at Q-School in January this year to get a Tour Card at the PDC. However, this did not work, so the 30-year-old darter can play both PDC and BDO tournaments.
“I was disappointed when I didn't win that card, but the button is long and wide and I now throw as many tournaments as possible at the PDC and BDO. I think I have set the bar too high because I wanted too much. I really have to build it up. "
It gave him the opportunity to participate in two BDO tournaments in Poland. Greebe won two finals, one of which he won. "I reached the final and I was really good at throwing. Unfortunately, I lost the final to the Polish Masters. "
“I showed that weekend that I can throw really well all the time. That's how it always has to be. But again: I don't have to walk beside my shoes after that victory. Stay calm and just keep going. ”
First single-legged darter at the World Cup
Almost immediately after his foot amputation, an ambitious Greebe said he would love to take action again at the Darts World Championship. He wanted to be the first single-legged darter in a world championship. That intention is unchanged one and a half years later.
“I still want that. I do everything for it and am constantly playing darts. But if it fails this year, we will try again next year. But it will happen, I know that for sure. "
