Tuesday April 30 was a very special day for William O’Connor.
The Irish ace broke through the field to claim the Players Championship 13 title. O’Connor beat the likes of Jeffrey de Zwaan and Daryl Gurney en route to the final, before seeing off Nathan Aspinall. It marked the first ever PDC Pro Tour victory by an Irish player, and it certainly meant a lot to the Limerick man.

“It was definitely the proudest moment of my career,” he told dartsnews.com.

Haupai Puha will represent New Zealand at the World Cup Of Darts for the first time as he teams with a familiar face in Cody Harris.
Puha has been in superb form though as of late and currently sits as the DPNZ Number One. He previously impressed in the World Series last year and could prove to be a shrewd addition to the team.

He spoke to DartsNews.com ahead of his debut and admitted it is a dream come true to represent his country.

Michael van Gerwen has a new teammate on his side at the World Cup of Darts in the coming week. Jermaine Wattimena replaced five-time world champion Raymond van Barneveld.
Van Barneveld and Van Gerwen claimed the title last year at the World Cup of Darts. Nevertheless, Barney lost his place because Wattimena overtook him on the world ranking. That was a reason for the PDC to put ‘The Machine Gun’ next to the world number one.

The right choice, Van Gerwen told Dartsnews.

The PDC World Championship is the ‘big one’. The World Matchplay is good too. But there’s nothing better than the World Cup of Darts.
Yes, I’m going there.

Good article.

I say PDC Worlds and Lakeside are the big ones. Then Premier League and World Cup. Then Matchplay.

It was a world class tournament when it was in Houghton-le-spring, not so much since it moved to Germany.

Max Hopp is still only 22 years old, but is set to play his fifth World Cup of Darts already. He represents Germany with Martin Schindler and will play in front of his own crowd in Hamburg.

Great, can't wait to see a room full of Von Mongrubers trying to put off Germany's opponents in every game.

The Matchplay has lost its prestige. A bit like the BDO Masters event. Its just another leg play tournament on the PDC tour. The World Cup is an international fixture and is important to everyone. Not just those born English or Dutch. In 5 years it will be the 3rd or 4th biggest tournament in darts behind the PDC Worlds, BDO Worlds, and Premier League.
