Was Martin the greatest dart player of all time?
Having won more pentathlons then anyone else and heading the all time ranking points for the event is Martin Adams the greatest player of our generation?
The Pentathlon is the the ultimate test for any player involving many differing applications utilising various regions of the dart board..........and don't forget all this was acheived on a real dartboard and not these generous modern boards we have today.

One of but not THE greatest, the pentathlon is great but it is what it is and for the best one must factor in all ranking tournaments. Therefore unfortunately a certain Mr Phil Taylor is the greatest ever.Paddy McGinty wrote:Having won more pentathlons then anyone else and heading the all time ranking points for the event is John Lowe the greatest player of our generation?

I notice the question you pose in the OP differs from the question in the thread title.
Given the parameters you're using to frame the question(s) i.e. Pentathlon success played on round wire boards, you're probably better off sticking to asking is he was the best player of his generation (to which my answer is he probably was, yes, although at the time I'd have had to admit that through gritted teeth as I was a huge Bob Anderson fan as a kid).
You've got no chance of answering was he the best of all time , given that today's top players (PDC at least) don't even play Pentathlon, so you can't use it as a measure of identifying the best player of all time.
Equally, we're rapidly approaching the time when hardly any top players will ever have even played competitively on round wire boards, and you've no way of knowing how well Lowe in his prime would have done on a modern board in the same way you've no idea how todays younger players would fare on a round wire board.
Like any sport, with the advances made in equipment / sports physiology knowledge etc, trying to identify the Best Of All Time is a futile exercise.

No doubt that Taylor is the GOAT.
Lowe was a fantastic player and would definitely be in my Top 6.

Trying to second guess what goes on in Paddy McGintys head is a futile exercise. I wouldn't give him the benefit of the doubt; it's likely more of his now tiresome trolling.Buzz Fledderjohn wrote:I notice the question you pose in the OP differs from the question in the thread title.

The guy hit a 9er on a round wire regulation board, that alone makes him better than everyone bar Taylor.

Re: Was John the greatest dart player of all time?
In all honesty I still think Bristow at his peak was the best ever player, the fact he won so much at a time when players like Lowe,Wilson,Rees,Glazier,Anderson,Evans, George,Morgan and Lazarenko were around speaks for itself. Lowe would most definitely be in my top 5 though.
Not to mention Joe Hitchcock
