Good enough?
Good evening all,
First of all - hello
Although I've been browsing the forum for a while I haven't posted before.
My first post has two questions really:
1: I have been playing 'properly' for about 2 years now - and by that I mean I practice most nights for around an hour or so. I don't play competitively, and apart from the odd game against my brother who is a similar standard to me I mostly play against the computer. I have attached a screen shot of my 'typical game' below. Obviously this fluctuates a little, however I have never averaged over 55 after 6/7 or more legs. Based on this... would I be out of place in a typical pub team? As I would like to play competitively in order to try and improve my game. Although I'm conscious of being some way off the usual standard.
2: In people's past experience, just how much can I improve from my current standard given that I practice almost every night and have been doing so for a couple of years now. Have I reached my 'peak' ability, or can I really add lots more to my game and play to a higher standard? The reason I ask is sometimes I feel as though progress is very slow and that I'm not seeing the benefit of all the practice.
Thanks for reading and for any advice anybody may be able to offer.
Andrew.

Re: Good enough?
Welcome to the forum Andrew.
55 over a number of legs is not a bad standard.
I've played Superleague with players that average less than that

Re: Good enough?
If you play league or pub darts on a regular basis, your game will only improve.
Playing competitively and also with others watching you and cheering you on.

Re: Good enough?
That's perfectly fine for pub leagues, I think you would improve playing against different players. Not having expectations on your progress would help, just enjoying playing for fun normally improves your game.
Re: Good enough?
Perfectly good averages for most local leagues. If you are consistent at that average then you may be surprised how many games you could win.

Re: Good enough?
I always find playing against the computer and recording my averages a nightmare as it seems to put more pressure on myself. You should join a pub team, its scary at first and i was horrendous( 1 out the board then treble 1 then 20).
But as you play more often try and understand where its going wrong, is your follow through straight, are you dropping your arm and other such things.
Its fun playing in a team and will improve your game massively, just be ready for a bit of banter when it goes wrong.

Re: Good enough?
Join a team ASAP.
Your game will most probably dip a bit in the 1st few weeks but keep plodding remembering you can play.
The support of team mates, trying to improve to become a regular player, the banter etc is massive.
Be patient at 1st as Capt will have to consider when best to play you to help you and team, early on you may not play very often but playing against team mates before and after will improve confidence and ability.
Lastly over time you will play against much better players which should not be a negative if you get smashed it should be a target to reach and beat them in time.
Enjoy the ride, it will be bumpy.

Re: Good enough?
Welcome aboard.
I was the same way when I started playing but as you've read, playing more will help you because you can see what you have to work on. Joining a team will help you as well. Those numbers are quite good and would hold up in most local leagues, certainly in this part of the world.

Re: Good enough?
Thanks for the replies everybody. Much appreciated.
I certainly think the next step is to join a team and start to play competitively against other people. Playing against the computer has its uses, but can become repetitive and sense of achievement isn't always the best even when I play well.
I live in Wigan and I think there is a pretty healthy darts interest around here so it shouldn't be too hard for me to find somewhere to play!
Andrew.

Even if its to late to sign for season in progress still go. Practise with new team mates before match etc. Get use to surroundings etc.andydeano15 wrote:Thanks for the replies everybody. Much appreciated.
