In any case its academic, he isnt going to fall out the top 8 of the rankings barring some bizarre circumstances.
Ah right, thanks and yes Gladiator will be there surely!
I was wondering given the recent announcement if they might invite Lisa Ashton with the extra space from Durrant winning two of the majors??

It's only worth watching because of the inclusion of the BDO boys, you must admit it would be pretty shit without the interest they generate.....TheSandman wrote:It’s lucky the PDC don’t ask the BDO to supply half the fans. #couldntfillabingohallPaddy McGinty wrote:No as they are suppling the talent........Ginge wrote:Seems a reasonable suggestion. Ross the Boss stating yet again on Fanatics he hopes the Worlds are moved from Lakeside ...
I still think it's a dangerous wish...Lakeside for all its faults is still the place people will attend who will never attend Preston or wherever...it's still the main draw the BDO have just by name and that's before you start looking at who would put up the prize money Potter does...be careful what you wish for

Very true. It's game over if it's moved from lakeside .trotter wrote:Ross the Boss stating yet again on Fanatics he hopes the Worlds are moved from Lakeside ...

It's a great venue. You think nobody will buy tickets or will travel to the Worlds because it moved venue?
Re: RE: Re: RE: Re: Road to BDO World Championships 2019
More to do with getting it on good tv and a good sponsor. Remember it would also need a major sponsor if moved.ChrisW wrote:Why are you so sure?Skewball wrote:Very true. When you watch ch4 coverage it is all ' history/lakeside/bristow/lowe/history/lakeside etc etc.
Without the above what have you actually got - a second rate 'world' championships that would have to stand on its own two feet.
I just can't see it commercially coming close to Lakeside
Fwiw I think it will stay for a while.
Re: RE: Re: Road to BDO World Championships 2019
I doubt anyone in charge would slaughter the goose with the golden eggs. The only reason I see them moving is if they get a better offer elsewhere, but who on earth would put up that kind of money for a tournament/org that isn't doing that well when it comes to public image? Only someone with a revolutionary vision, who believes he can improve on what the PDC is doing commercially. Not very likely though if you ask me.Skewball wrote:Very true. What's Ross' problem with Lakeside anyway? Sure it's old and could do with some renovating but it's not like other BDO tournaments are played at 5 star hotels or something. Where would he move it?
Almost seems like he just hates it because of his subpar record there.

That would be crazy as a lot of casual fans know it as the lakeside world championship not the BDO world championship.trotter wrote:Ross the Boss stating yet again on Fanatics he hopes the Worlds are moved from Lakeside ...

Just goes to prove that the players should have no influence at board level whatsoever, not an ounce of commercial awareness in his thick head.trotter wrote:Ross the Boss stating yet again on Fanatics he hopes the Worlds are moved from Lakeside ...

It has already been proven moving an event away from Lakeside will result in less paying punters.ChrisW wrote:Why are you so sure?Skewball wrote:Very true. Look at the WDT when it was held at Lakeside. About 1000 tickets sold across the three days. Now look at the same event in Preston and the Welsh cinema. About 30% of that across more sessions!
Now Im not saying for one minute every single major event should be at Lakeside because that would be a bit unoriginal, but there is certainly a "Lakeside effect".

Agree with both Ginge and Oche.
Lakeside is still a special place for darts.
Lose the venue and it devalues the event.

Re: Road to BDO World Championships 2019
They have no choice unless they find a sponsor who will stump up over £300K, and the chances of that are zilch. If they move from Lakeside the winner will be lucky to trouser £20k and it could still end up losing them money. They are in a precarious position at the minute with no TV contract for either of their majors, how much more money can they afford to lose?oche balboa wrote:Keep it at Lakeside

If that bloke who runs the Guild Hall was even half interested in taking Lakeside (and presumably stumping up for it), surely his mind would have been changed the other week when he saw how ridiculously empty his Grand Hall was.

Anyone remotely interested in BDO darts will have now realised it is a dead duck.Ginge wrote:If that bloke who runs the Guild Hall was even half interested in taking Lakeside (and presumably stumping up for it), surely his mind would have been changed the other week when he saw how ridiculously empty his Grand Hall was.

Someone may foolishly think the size of the crowd would be replicated if they took the event on. Already proven that hasnt happened with the WDT.London Eye wrote:Anyone remotely interested in BDO darts will have now realised it is a dead duck.Ginge wrote:If that bloke who runs the Guild Hall was even half interested in taking Lakeside (and presumably stumping up for it), surely his mind would have been changed the other week when he saw how ridiculously empty his Grand Hall was.

The graveyard of people who erroneously believed there's still commercial value in the BDO product is probably more crowded than a typical session of BDO darts by now.Ginge wrote:Someone may foolishly think the size of the crowd would be replicated if they took the event on. Re: Road to BDO World Championships 2019
It would be interesting to see just how well for example the Guild Hall would sell tickets for a BDO world championship IF it was marketed correctly, properly and around a year in advance - that would be the true comparison!
Re: Road to BDO World Championships 2019
So do the BDO have anything set in stone yet to this tournament? Will it even go ahead? Still 6 months away, but this is the organisation’s blue ribband event.
