Gofundme
Has anyone in the darts community had a successful gofundme campaign? Tbh don't see the point as they all seem very badly supported from what I can see.
Re: Gofundme
The latest one has hardly any donations. Folks must do it because it works for some, I'm guessing. Or just a case of, say, £200 is better than nothing?

To much begging going on, get off your arses and get a job, work hard, save a little and fund yourself, that's what most people in life do to get their career going. Just because you play a pub game well shouldn't entitle someone special privileges......

Well said, way too much of it in darts.Paddy McGinty wrote:To much begging going on, get off your arses and get a job, work hard, save a little and fund yourself, that's what most people in life do to get their career going. Darts has got extremely low barriers to entry compared to virtually any other sport. The whinning and begging over the costs is pathetic.

That's right once you have worked hard and broken through the barriers and achieved success then is the time to step back from work and live off the prize and sponsor money that you can now rightly demand.Skewball wrote:Well said, way too much of it in darts.Paddy McGinty wrote:To much begging going on, get off your arses and get a job, work hard, save a little and fund yourself, that's what most people in life do to get their career going. Let them get on with it, if people are happy enough/mug enough(depending on how you see it) to chip in some money then that's their prerogative. Seeing one wanting 10 grand to cover 2018 expenses seems a bit of a pisstake though I guess there isn't any harm in trying.
If they're good enough they would surely pick up enough prize money to cover a fair proportion of expenses incurred? It's their choice to play these events, they don't HAVE to.
Anyway I'm off to put a tenner on one of those guys(that no-one has heard of) who say they can hit consistant 100+ averages in what I'm guessing is the bedroom masters or a similar tournament.

Re: Gofundme
I feel guilty when I have to borrow a tenner off my Mum!
So to try and crowd fund £10,000, when there wouldn't be much prize money back unless all events were won, seems a bit OTT.

Again, not gofundme. Sponsorship scheme totally different.Murphio wrote:Justin Pipe, James Richardson and one or two others did OK....

I know what it was; and it was not 'totally different' at all. They were still accepting donations from strangers.Ecky Thump wrote:Again, not gofundme. Sponsorship scheme totally different.Murphio wrote:Justin Pipe, James Richardson and one or two others did OK....

Re: Gofundme
But in the scheme the player put themselves forward to win the sponsorship, which was a decent amount, rather than directly and blindly begging online.Murphio wrote:I know what it was; and it was not 'totally different' at all.
