OVER 170 players will compete for places in the William Hill North American Championship and William Hill US Darts Masters in the Qualifiers on Tuesday and Wednesday.

The PDC's World Series of Darts returns to Las Vegas, with the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino hosting eight of the world's top stars as well as the cream of north American talent.

Two days of qualifying tournaments, with two knockouts per day, will end with eight players progressing to compete on the big stage from Thursday to Saturday.

Thursday sees the North American Championship take place as the eight US and Canadian qualifiers face off for that title and a place in the William Hill World Darts Championship.

The eight players then return to the stage on Friday to take on the eight PDC stars in the two-day US Darts Masters, which concludes with the quarter-finals, semi-finals and final on Saturday.

The north American contingent is led by three-time World Champion John Part, a former Las Vegas Desert Classic winner at Mandalay Bay.

Dawson Murschell (pictured), who starred in last year's US Darts Masters with a win over James Wade, is again in the field alongside fellow Canadian Dave Richardson, who knocked out Max Hopp 12 months ago.

Highly experienced Darin Young heads the field of American qualifiers, although his World Cup of Darts partner Larry Butler misses the events as he continues his recovery from a heart attack last month.

2008 UK Open finalist Gary Mawson and former World Championship qualifiers Ray Carver, David Fatum, Ken MacNeil, Brian Cyr and Jeff Smith are also in action.

After last nights flight cancellation I'm going to be very iffy to make registration for the 1st qualifier.. fingers and toes crossed, leaving luggage at airport in Vegas and straight in a cab to the venue.. Going to come down to mins need it all to go right for a chance.

No Willy J defending his title this year, and as you can see from his tweet, Jeff Smith may miss the first qualifier today.

Darin Young has been in great form as has Soldier Gates, so expecting those 2 to make it through, but could be surprise qualifiers like last year.

Rooting for The Scorpion as he was so unlucky last year, missing the big stage by 1 place on the qualifier OOM, and would also like to see Dawson qualify.
