I assume there’s also increases for all other tournaments to follow...

Some quick maths but If they went to 80 players (extra 8 in the Prelim) could work like this:

Winner £500,000 Up £100,000
Runner Up £240,000 Up £70,000
Semi Finalist £120,000 Up £35,000
Quarter Finalist £60,000 Up £20,000
Third Round Loser £35,000 Up £8,000
Second Round Loser £26,000 Up £7,500
First Round Loser £15,000 Up £4,000
Preliminary Round Loser £6,500 Up £2,000

Yep 80 players would be sufficient in this aspect

However, challenge tour players are not able to try the PDPA Qualifier. But overseas players can play a few weaker matches and get through

Oh well, perils of not getting a Tour Card I suppose

For the coming years I agree. Expect this particular expansion to go up to 80 players. But as I said, on the long term I expect the format and at some point maybe even the venue to be drastically changed.

There's still a larger room available at Ally Pally isn't there?

I know they have said field will increase but how can they go to 80 and not increase numbers of tour card holders. 48 spots to tour card holders plus the 3 from the pdpa qualifier. The rest had no restrictions. Going up to 80 would have a big in balance on the field imo. Wonder if they will have a PDPA qualifying event for the European guys

Doesn't need expanded surely. I like seeing players you don't see often and who have little chance of doing anything other than winning one game but there's enough of that already, sin't there? Honestly can't see the point of adding more players myself.

Then, when those sessions don't sell out, the "bubble burst" merchants will be happy. Everyone is happy!

Obviously when those players gain more experience, over time they'll become capable of winning more than one game.

I really can't see the point of people complaining about the prelims and stuff all the time. This is the way to grow the game.

When do they normally announce pro and Euro tour increases?
Assumed it would all be covered on latest announcement

agree. Pdc thinking long and short term. Long term: players can develop and who knows which country might produce a star. Short term: increase interest (TV coverage and players/fans) in the nations represented by new prelim player (some will tune in to see their fellow country man.and some of those will fall in love with Pdc darts and maybe take up the game )

I think they should expand the WMP is the 2nd biggest ranked event to 40 players top 24 ranked then 16 pro tour played top 24 strait in to last 32

You would only need 2 extra session play round 1 on the sat afternoon evening then round 1 Sunday afternoon evening Monday Tuesday

Round 3 Wednesday Thursday and last8 Friday afternoon evening

phil davies wrote:Be intresting what this turns out to mean but I hope they expand the global qualifiers more their should be a sepearate Canadian and US one for a start like their used to be. Should also be one for the Central America and Caribbean. At least two qualifiers from Africa and more qualifiers from Asia in order to help make it a truly global game.

In the future hopefully the game will be big enough and financially rewarding that the tour is also truly global instead of Eurocentric most likely starting point for this is Aus and then east Asia with ranking tournaments and then hopefully also floor events towards the OOM. As it grows they would have to expand the tour card to 256 players in order for it to be more global.

But anyway that’s just what I’d be trying to do if I was charge of it but we will have to wait and see.
Totally agree with this

The more you inflate the bubble the more chance it has of bursting, just common sense that.

Cant stop progress, whats the alternative?...just let the bubble deflate slowly year on year until it finally sinks like the BDO?
