Will you moan about it like you did last year and they should have been entering the Euro Tour Qualifier
Why do you have a swipe at someone who might have a different opinion as yours?
The comment I made last year was that considering the shear number of players in the Netherlands, why more hadn’t entered the qualifiers for the European Tour event.
It’s a huge number of entries, but it must be a logistical nightmare Shirley?

I think it's more of a congestional daydream Betsy.

The BAUHAUS Dutch Open Darts had a total number of 5113 players last year. This year we have passed the limit of 5,500. For the first time in the 'Bonte Wever' more than 3000 men have registered for the mens single tournament and we also see high numbers of participants in the other categories. The ladies single tournament has almost 350 participants and more than 350 youth players will participate in the Dutch Open Youth. Finally, the first paradarts tournament at the Dutch Open starts with 31 paradarters.
Below, you can see the numbers at the moment. These are subject to change and are not final.
Category
2018
Mens single 3241
Ladies single 346
Mens Pairs 1555
Ladies Pairs 176
Paradarts 31
Boys (14-17 years) 272
Girls (under 18 years) 30
Boys (under 14 years) 50
TOTAL: 5701
Fantastic entry numbers and shows why there will always be a market for an organisation promoting darts at a local level.

Pretty poor that the top guys not playing this one. I understand it is close to Lakeside and huge field but one to put on the darting CV.

Think they count per pair. Which would mean there are almost as many doubles as singles players.
And more ladies playing pairs than singles!
They are a social bunch aren't they, women.
346 ladies is more than healthy in fairness , to think of the days of high entries in Dutch open in early 2000's
346 is amazing. I think what the number of doubles players reflects is that many ladies there see it as a day out, a social thing, so they like playing the doubles with a friend instead of the singles.
Great numbers for all categories though, this is a very healthy comp indeed. Maybe they benefitted a bit from the demise of the HAL open as well?

It's not really "instead" here though, is it? What I recall from looking at the entry lists a few years ago is that the great majority of players (both men and women) are playing both the singles and the pairs.

Yeah, should have phrased that better. What I meant was that I think the doubles is the main attraction in the women's field. I think you'd see the numbers in the singles drop significantly if there'd be no doubles. I have no hard data to back this up though, just a hunch.
