West tweeted this on March 10th 2018 following a 6-4 loss to Kanik at PC3.

Steve West tweet. Clearly not happy with his opponent Tytus Kanik.

Pleased for him. Showing signs of coming back to form and dependent on his draw, has every chance of qualifying for the knock out rounds. Would be great to see him and Durrant in the same group.

An utter joke these players get into the slam from a qualifier. They really need to knock this idea on the head and give it to more deserving players.

This is a devilish qualifying process, some horrible draws for most. Happy that we won't be seeing the likes of King, Adrian Lewis, Gurner, van de Pas, Burnett & Huybrechts.

Watching the Champion of Champions snooker on ITV4. That is a 16 player field but they only have 12 champions so other 4 are the top ranked non qualified from OOM.

As has been said before if Hearn can do this in snooker why not for the GSOD.

It's what makes the Grand Slam unique though. There are loads of TV events where being in the top 16 is enough to qualify you regardless of your form in the last 12 months. This tournament rewards reaching big finals & winning tournaments (in terms of PDC players).

With regards the qualifiers, I'd suggest the only thing to prevent them happening if that's what people want would be to reduce the field to 16 players, ensuring only those that win major titles qualify, then have the remaining spots made up by BDO players. If it matters that much that there are the likes of Steve Hine & Andrew Gilding getting a big break after a good day of darts.
