For me tonight will be a huge factor in the decision Duzza makes in regard to where he plays darts next year.

Durrant is clearly a very good player, but his lack of match practise against top quality opposition has seen him lose in the Masters final to a Challenge Tour Player and go out of the GSOD in the Group Stages.

Wake up call either way. He can either go to Q School, get his card and become a professional darts player pushing himself on a weekly basis against top quality players, or he can decide to miss Q School, play the BDO and exhibitions and make a decent living on those circuits whilst continuing with his job as a Housing Manager.

A year or two on the Challenge Tour would do Durrant good.

I'm being serious. The level of play might not be stronger than at the BDO's top end, but there's a lot more depth to it. And he'd get 20 quality tournament opportunities compressed into just five weekends, which should be compatible with his job. (Plus low-pressure Pro Tour experience as an add-on if he's good enough for the fill-in spots and he wants it.) Short of finally making up his mind and taking the PDC plunge completely, that's the only other way he'll ever find out if he's cut out for the PDC style darts circuit.

Of course, a two-time (maybe soon to be three-time) Lakeside champion doing the Challenge Tour as a learning experience wouldn't sit too well with some people.

You're only now starting to have concerns about the GSOD's long-term viability? The BDO aspect of it has been on life support for years.

Mardle's an odd commentator. Tells us that McGeeney throws in the style of Taylor without actually mentioning he's using the old Taylor Phase 5's to, I assume, aid that.

Ill put money on if all 8 go out in the groups the PDC will use it to make the leap and stop auto inviting BDO players.

There is too much of a gap now that I dont think the appeal of the event is PDC v BDO any more, 5 are already out and the other 3 need big wins to get through.

The appeal is the group stage, if this was remodeled as a straight up winners of pro tour tournaments through the year and maybe just the BDO world champion invited, then go back to a completely open qualifier for 4 places I think it would still be a great tournament.

There have been far worse players get a card and then go on and do well, I’m sure McGeeney would be fine.
