Not yet qualified for the Grand Slam:
Daryl Gurney (5)
Simon Whitlock (7)
Dave Chisnall (9)
James Wade (10)
Darren Webster (13)

Wade in particular will lose a huge chunk of ranking money if he does not qualify.

According to Ochepedia he is provisionally in the last qualifying spot.Deserves to be in given he has won 3 titles on the Pro Tour this year.

Hopefully the commentators will remember he won the masters from round one.

Well deserved for Ratty..2 wins in a weekend is some achievement and won in front of bigger crowds that watched his Masters win last year...we'll played sir...a good addition to tell Grand Slam.

They won’t, it’s others who will be seething after his three tour wins this season and both this weekend...

Hopefully they’ll also remember Rob Cross failed to qualify for Lakeside one year...

Sod them

The fact they have not qualified shows they are not playing well.
Who wants to see players who are not playing well ?

This is the pdc

Courtesy of Erik Middelkoop.

Grand Slam of Darts 2019 field: only 4 spots (and of course 8 qualifiers) remain to be open. Ratajski has knocked out De Zwaan by winning 2 Players Championship events. Only European Championship (this weekend) and World Series Finals (next weekend) left.

8 players for "Wildcard" Qualifiers is way too much

De Zwaan, Noppert, Mansell & Aspinall should all be in the Grand Slam of Darts

If there is 4 different qualifiers from the 2 TV events coming up (Gurney, Cullen, Wade, Lewis) for Example then no need for a Wildcard Qualifier, It should be fluid of up to 8 qualifiers and min of none.

Agree, they should go down the list until 24 if there's enough players and only have qualifiers if there are places left. Would strengthen the field as well methinks.

I think everyone agrees with this bar the PDC for some stupid reason
Yes, don't think I've ever encountered someone who thought this way makes sense.

There is one reason I see why the PDc would take this route.
8 qualifier would be 8 players who played well that day, so they might be in dome form.

Wade, gurney, and Whitlock have not qualified so far mostly because they are not in form.
I suspect the pdc would want players currently in form that big names on the way down the rankings or players currently not in form.
If Wade gurney and whitlock were throwing quality darts they would have qualified.

Personally i prefer to watch players in form than players in a slump

I don't really see the problem , given that its now a ranking tournament, as it has 8 groups

Have 16 tournament winners or finalists for 2 in each group

The 8 BDO cannon fodder lads for the slight ripple of interest they may create now

and then 8 qualifiers possibly 4 from a UK one and 4 from a Euro one to give 8 in form people an entry route into it
