Like I said before ..moving venues wouldnt matter a jot as long as the fans turned up and supported the event....a new venue with relatively full houses and mainstream TV would mean Lakeside would soon be forgotten........but a new venue with hardly anybody there in front of the TV cameras would be disastrous and would put the long term event in jeopardy..

If they moved to newer better venue...got TV..got the sponsorship and got the crowds turning up then it could genuinely be the new era they want....my concern is that would the fans who go to Lakeside continue to go elsewhere..and then there is the problem of attracting a new generation of fans to turn up .

They'd be crazy to lose the prize fund of Potter inc. at the moment.

Bump

What we know so far:

"Board Statement 16th May 2018
The BDO board of directors are currently in negotiations for a suitable venue to hold the Winmau World Masters 2018. As soon as contracts are signed then an official announcement will be made and Countries will be informed where the venue will be.

So what we know so far is:

No venue has been found
No TV deal signed
No prize fund confirmed

We've been here before, last year, the year before that and the cycle repeats itself ad infinitum.

At least lock down the venue and date so people can book tickets, hotels etc.

Realistically does anyone , seriously, expect anything on this matter (or any other matters) to even begin to be resolved until after the latest episode of Beer Hall Putsch withn the BDO is 'resolved' in August ?

It better be, the Masters qualification cutoff is normally at the end of August. (I note they haven't actually put a cutoff date in the diary yet...) The willingness of international players to travel to the tournament could hit an all-time low if the relevant issues aren't resolved soon.

Of course, if the Masters somehow fails to go ahead altogether that's all moot, but in that case the BDO will have a far bigger issue on its hands than having pissed off international players.

Just checking Prestons show diary and there seems to be a gap in things in the main hall for the week of the Masters and the weeks of Lakeside.

Wasn't the case for that week in October a few weeks back. Something must have been cancelled or shifted.

Peppa Pig is on in the Charter Theatre over the weekend in the afternoon but other than that the whole place (Grand hall and suites needed for floor matches) is free.

"1930s Royal Hall Ballroom and Edwardian Theatre"

Separate rooms. The darts is in the former.

Certainly could be an iconic darts venue like Blackpool if they ever get it right and get the crowds in.
Well, except that the location is in the arse end of nowhere
