No interest in the final - My interest went when the Wizard went out - Good tournament from the PDC after a very shaky start -

Fek it. Sometimes I feel that this whole tournament has the only reason to qualify that lazy dutch c**t for the GsoD because he can't get it done on his own anymore.
Re: 2018 PDC World Cup of Darts
Do you mean the one that was already qualified as reigning GSOD champion or the one that was already qualified as the Masters runner up?Duterprat wrote:Fek it. Re: 2018 PDC World Cup of Darts
Is that so? Then it has absolutely no reason this year LOL.
Al this best of 7 nonsense is way too much a game of luck for me, probably designed for football fans with the high likelyhood for upsets.

Re: 2018 PDC World Cup of Darts
I feel like I'm the only one but I quite like the World Cup. The pairs dynamics add something extra for me. Plus it serves a purpose, to give players of emerging darts nations a chance to play good players on a stage for some money.
I think this year has shown the Asian players have improved, possibly because of the new PDC tour there. And that's without the (possibly) strongest Asian nation there (the Philipines).
I'd like to see it increased to 40 nations, too many promising nations left out if you ask me.

Re: 2018 PDC World Cup of Darts
I like to watch it, too.
But i cannot see it as a proper tournament, there's usually a reason why the matches are getting longer towards the end of a tournament (more legs in darts, 5 sets in tennis majors, best of 7 game playoffs in other sports after the league == qualifying phase). Of course that "awards" the better and consistent players/teams.
This is at best comparable to football tournaments where on the one hand one can hardly afford errors, but on the other hand one is also vulnerable to someone playing out of their skin even only for a few minutes.

Re: 2018 PDC World Cup of Darts
A lot of people felt this event was a gimmick that wouldn't survive - on the contrary it has grown from strength to strength and I do think the players genuinely love playing in it. As an aside - anyone know what the beef was with Anderson and Whitlock?

Barney saying on Twitter they should move the format to a round robin - it isnt fair on these guys coming from all over the world to play a few legs. I think he has a point.

It’s not a gimmick but it isn’t a proper world cup let’s be honest!
Oh and MvG won yet again...!

Which is why it’s not really a proper world cup!
Re: 2018 PDC World Cup of Darts
I don't think there is the strength in depth to provide a 'proper' World Cup. I think they do the best with what they have at the minute - though a round robin format with maybe three players per team would perhaps be something to look at. I guess time would be the factor in that scenario. Trying to fit it in over a weekend.DavidB wrote:Murphio wrote:Barney saying on Twitter they should move the format to a round robin - it isnt fair on these guys coming from all over the world to play a few legs. The strength in depth for a 4 player event is there surely, after all the PDC have all the players now, youngsters and overseas markets don’t they??

In all fairness, there are multiple posters who did not realise that Barney had already qualified for the GSOD, following his appearance in the final of the 2018 Masters.Duterprat wrote:Fek it.
