One thing I dont get - We are meant to be darts fans and love the game - The BDO is a big part of the game - Yet people take pleasure in them not doing well - Doesnt make sense does it - We should be helping them - Not constantly taking the mick out of them - Im disappointed in how things are run - But for the good of the game - That we are meant to love - I hope they find a way to turn the tables -

Some of the posts on here about taking the BDO forward demonstrate the issue. They focus on things like TV channels, playing formats, wildcards, prize money etc. All this is the WRONG place to start. The sad thing is the same calibre of people appear to be making the decisions. Darts people are not business people.

I work for a mutual company, one run for the benefit of its members. ALL our members must be at the heart of everything we do, this is important. But so too is running a commercially viable proposition. This is why you have appropriately skilled commercially minded (and regulated) people in charge.

What actually needs to happen, is that the BDO needs to develop a commercially viable proposition that reflects the needs of its members (players). Given the volume of darts players in the UK, this should be easy. This proposition may not (shock horror) involve competing with the PDC, running televised competitions etc. The BDO could no doubt carve out a successful situation that leverages thousands of players who have no hope of gaining a tour card and surely that would be a success?

Do you think of the PDC decided to take an interest in Amature darts they would do what the BDO does?! No of course not! They would no doubt work out a system that bought in revenue and could be used to develop grassroots in some way. A commercially viable proposition...
