I remember when he did a q and a on here and was very honest and seemed to think about his answers. The best darts player ever and a huge loss. R.I.P. Eric

Awful, thought it was a mistake at first but unfortunately it's true. Rip Eric, all-time great.

Would be nice if people just pay their respect. No need for the rest.

Had the pleasure of meeting Eric a few times over the years and the guy was a pleasure to be around each time, loved to chat and loved to tell his stories.

He’s in the top 3 of all time and his achievements are made all the better as he was winning tournaments during the first peak of darts in the 80s.

Terribly sad and so sudden as heart attacks usually are of course.
No-one is guaranteed a tomorrow, and lets all remember the positives that Eric brought to the sport and his sparkling array of accolades.

Eric had the right idea. Always live in the now.

I have too many work colleagues who spend 60+ hours a week making money away from friends and family, but never having any time to spend it. Life is too short.

Could not stand the man as a person but his legacy as a darts players is unquestionable.

His many fans will be very sad.

Also it seems a lot of my fb friends who have never mentioned darts before seem to be very sad today. #grieftourists.

Eric was old school. They don't make them like him any more. I found him refreshing in a world full of people who are afraid to step on anyone elses toes. R.I.P. The Crafty Cockney. Darts will not be the same.

His crime of saying the wrong thing seemed to be treated like he'd actually committed acts as serious as those he was speaking about. He was an idiot for saying it, but, I guess, that was him.

Hard to imagine the world of darts today without his influence.

Like some of us here who grew up in the 70's the line between what was acceptable then and what is acceptable now changes daily and Eric was the same now as he was then, outspoken and says what he thinks.

You simply cannot say things like that in this day and age, simple.
Look at all the grief Fitzmaurice got, especially upon news of his death and all he did was tell 30 year old jokes.
"it's the same trolls spouting the same crap every other post.... you have to be some kind of sad act to watch nearly 8 hours of darts a day for 9 days just to post about how crap it is"

Eric made a comment that he got slated for and lost his job for.
Fatz spent YEARS doing his racist routine and had multiple people defend him.

Some of his tirades against foreigners and even the home dutch fans at the Zuiderduin did not go down well, and this was a yearly occurrence.
To put Bristow in the same bracket as a proven racist says more about you.
i am so sorry for my actions these last ten years, i'm going through a tough time
