WDT 2018 - the post mortem

Now it's over, it is time to reflect, yes there may have been some decent matches and the standard perhaps not as bad as could be expected, but surely the event in its current form (with absolutely pitiful crowds) is unsustainable for the future.

Thoughts please. Who is to blame for this? Will Des be thrown under the bus for pushing ahead with it?

Every member of the board are culpable for the attendance and lack of a money sponsor. However, that aside this tournament has been a great watch. Camera work and production not on a par with ITV/ch4 but that's a small thing that bothered only us geeks.

The players did well and as well as they could under the conditions. As usual it shows that there are a handful of BDO players (bear in mind these were the elite of the BDO system) who would do very very well in the PDC. But there is nothing new here and despite the trolling on here pretty much everyone agrees with this.

BUt, was the event worth spunking nearly £100k of BDO cash on it? Well no, ever in a million years. Even the hardened BDO fan boys on here have said many times in the past loss making vanity tournaments should not go ahead.
For that reason alone this event should have never gone ahead. It was an embarrassment and which is why they will never get decent sponsors and/or decent TV coverage. After watching the event they will run a mile.
In every measurable way the event was an abject failure. (Even taking into account that the BDO has lots of good dart players - that is not the issue here)

Skewball, there are many many players who did nowt in the BDO who have done well in the PDC. Different conditions, challenges, etc people can thrive!

Great little comp, enjoyable to watch. I think a lot of people wished they hadn't listened to the trolls on forums and social media and made the effort to go now after watching it.

worth the £80-£100k of members money ?
Should the other events/BDO Income subsidise this event as they seem to have done in the last year or two, or should the money be spent on Grass Roots Darts/Youth etc?

Nothing to do with trolls

Venue was too far away or tickets were too expensive going by the comments on fanatics.

How many sessions did you attend?

Those comments on Fanatics were bonkers, anyone who thinks the tickets were too expensive needs their head examined

Too far away ffs, Preston is next to two motorways and is on the West Coast rail mainline. Much easier to get to than Barry Island and the crowd there looked better.

Was a tenner for a stands ticket and they would have dragged you forward, how cheap do you actually want the bloody tickets?

Of course it was, weeks of negativity, shouts for it to be cancelled contributed to the low ticket sales, the tickets were actually very reasonable. We were going to go but people got scared of losing their cash in case the event got called off. The low attendance had a lot to do with trolls.....

Paddy, you have used these lines before, new material needed. Maybe give the Robson account a try.

Exactly Ginge, making my case even clearer. The money you and your cronies have cost the BDO and all who play within it's boundaries is inexcusable.

:DDD: :DDD: Even for your Paddy persona this is desperate. Everyone knows you are laughing as you type this nonsense! I would shift to your Robson persona permanently if I was you.

Delousional

The poor tickets sales were all down to the board, they should have went on sale late 2017, not 7 weeks before the event.

You can blame 5 people of a niche darts forum but it’s all down the fabulous BDO board.
