Is the Pentathalon being streamed at all?

No El Ringo would accuse us of wasting more money , our “freebie” deal doesnt include extra days .
I think the Pentathalon is an event in which the BDO/EDO are missing a trick. It's an interesting and different event to anything that PDC run.

Most people say they are bored of the same players, whereas I think it's down to the same old format of 501.
I'd like to see "Half It" played a lot more as it's a game that can accomodate people who aren't the best 501 players out there.
Many a time in the pub when we've started a game of "half it" we usually end up with a few "none" darters involved and a little bit of a crowd if we start barricking each other.
Had some great epic games of Half it. Like you say sometimes the players you least expect can win this.

Remember the Flower's dartathlon being televised back in the olden days, as you both say it's difference is it's USP.

Bloody hell Nick - The Flower’s Dartsathalon finals was the first big darts competition that I attended!

Held at the The Redwood Lodge Country Club nr Bristol!

Big Cliff, Jocky, Eric, John Lowe and Mike G, Dave Whitcombe (from memory) took on qualifiers from different regions.

I have the programme somewhere - I will look it out!

Cheers, I remember Paul posting some historic scored on the Pentathlon. But not for the ladies.
Probably on the mens. I think I remember Adams being the highest ever score.

Phew, I'm glad they put a difference to place above column in.
I would have really struggled working that out.

He only has the highest score as they changed how it was scored some years ago.

This was the post.

Total points
Martin Adams 489 (2004)

Andy Fordham 80 (2002)

Andy Jenkins 31 darts (1996)
Halve-it
John Lowe 614 (1985)
Best 2 legs
Ronnie Baxter(1997) & Martin Adams(2008) 25 points

The scores have been kept since 1976
John Lowe's beat score of his 10 victories was 375
Eric Bristows was 358
Phil Taylor was 400
Steve Beaton was 413
Martin has recorded 8 wins with 400 points or more .

Strangely the ladies record score was also set in 2004 with Trina hitting 410 higher than all john Lowe's 10 wins , it's a funny old game .

I dont remember the "Flowers Dartathalon" (im 43).
Nor me and I am older than that and have seen every world championships from inception.

It doesn't work having any format that isn't known to the mass viewing public.

Darts works on TV cos its simple , easy to understand and gives an excitement moment at the end of every quick game for the finish & a winner or loser of every game.

The PDC found this with the equal darts experiment it just doesn't work as good as a conventional game of 501 does.

Pentathlon just isn't like this and to be honest if it was ever going to have made it as a 'televised' tournament it would of happened back in the golden days when Bristow , Lowe, Jocky etc were all household names and could of brought in some fan base to hopefully watch and pick it up
I know where your coming from but at the time of Bristow and such the game didn't need gimmicks as it was an exciting game, it was fairly new and rising as a TV sport. Though with the game where it is now it needs a gimmick to give the BDO/EDO something new.

Ladies darts is a gimmick and that only has any impact when a lady is capable of beating a man. Having a lady in the Worlds will create 10x the interest that any separate Ladies Championship does but this is just ignored by the amateur powers that be with a plethora of excuses.

The only gimmick the EDO / BDO need to adopt is accepting that putting two penny opens on obscure TV channels is a complete and utter waste of time , resources and money. There is no body today who will stumble across this on freeview today and sits enthralled thinking I want to take up darts and play in this. Sure carry on having the holiday camp type opens if everyone goes along and has a good time but accept they make for appalling TV spectacles.

Be radical in their approach to how to present amateur darts keep the Masters as it is /was for the County Type players and then declare all other competition as true unrestricted opens.

If you had a genuine true open world championships where joe bloggs could get off his sofa qualify and win the a People Worlds Title it would create massive interest. Look how many people try and participate in the PDC UK OPEN. This is the way forward for BDO Amateur darts not encouraging more restrictions to help protect a cherished few 'names' protect their income and status.

Its a format that the BDO use and have that the PDC don't have.

The comment was that the BDO /EDO needed different gimmick from the conventional 501 game to stand out from the PDC and attract interest.
