44 minutes and no pat on the head he was expecting. This place has gone to the dogs.

Isn't that about the same as playing in the BDO World Champs at Lakeside ? but more profitable ?
No nothing like it...... winning Lakeside was the making of him, he used it as a launch pad for his career on the exhibition circuit. Many have tried but few have triumphed.

Hate to tell you this but around 93 he gave an interview where he said he would rather go back to making Toilet Handles than carry on playing in the BDO but he couldn't as the factory was no longer in existence.

On another note didn't Gando allude to Taylor returning to the Matchplay next year in his interview after winning ?

Hopefully Barry can change the rules for qualification for the 2019 tournament and allow former champions into the event - with the 16-time champion Phil Taylor being right at the top of that qualification list of course. Would allow John Part & Dennis Priestley, two gents of the game, another go also.

With 96 qualifiers, got to be worth a shout, creates an added interest level I'd say.

yeah good point, would like to see that option available, afaik there is an option for former snooker players to still compete in the wc via the wc seniors event

Nonsense. You should qualify to play. The ladies qualifier are already unnecessary and this wouldn't help the professional image of the game at all.

They are eligible to enter the PDPA qualifiers if they wish. It would be ridiculous to change the criteria now that everything's announced. Maybe a qualifying place for the 2020 Worlds but I really think it'd be best if they had to earn their place like everyone else has.

Taylor was by far and away my favourite player to watch but i hope he doesn't return as for the simple reason he went out on a high.

It was an incredible feat to reach the final of his last ever World Championship even when he was clearly nowhere near the level he was say 5-6 years ago.

Yes he got tonked in the final but that was mainly down to Rob Cross producing the game of his life and indeed a performance in a World Final that only Taylor and MvG have bettered. Phil actually played pretty well in the final and missed a 9 darter by a fraction.

I think that he cannot hope to achieve better than that, unless he has access to a time machine and can go back in time and send the 2008-10 version of himself to the present :-)

Correct. Especially as the whole toilet handles thing is a legend created by Waddell to embellish a story about Taylor's "humble origins".
