Definitely. Otherwise why bother.markymark wrote:The Boss is wondering whether a sponsor has been found rather than the BDO. Wouldn't a sponsor want to the publicity if so?

I assumed the sponsor in the press release was referring to the existing ones, who have merely reduced their financial input.

The July post on their FB page stated it was sponsored by Winmau.
Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
If we marry that with the rumour of Winmau removing sponsorship are we jumping to conclusions?ChrisW wrote:The July post on their FB page stated it was sponsored by Winmau.

Its easy to find out things if you speak to the organiser.

I may have to revise this opinion based on new info. Consider me an idiot now...Ginge wrote:Doubt the "rescue package" was financial, the BDO probably just agreed they could downgrade the category of the main event at short notice whilst getting rid of the other, and points would still be awarded.
From the press release:
The event already has a sponsor so no need for the BDO to pay anything in. Anyone who thinks they have is a total idiot.Assurances from the event sponsor have been received in writing alongside a guarantee prize fund that a Category A event requires

Been told that a four figure sum has been lobbed in the direction of the Spaniards to keep the event afloat.

Whatever the numbers registered, this was an important weekend for both the main and Western Europe table, with the 2nd highest prize money for an open weekend outside UK. In his first week in charge he wouldn't want an event cancelled at the last minute - Des Jacklin, man of action!
Seems quite sad to me Dave, what do you think?

Nah he's busy arranging fights with just about everyone on df

Apparently all with the support & approval of TT and WCDPA .....

He can’t be expected to give a running account of everything he does on a daily basis. I am sure the rest of the board knew before doing this and at the next agm or delegate meeting he will be transparent over these big decisions and many othersSkewball wrote:So is this a right or wrong time to be transparent about use of Bdo funds? The Jolly Man wrote:There is still a right and wrong time to be transparent. Happy that 5 grand has been frittered away keeping the event on.
Well, half of it anyway...

Crazy eh.
Let’s hope there is a repayment package in place.
Wouldn’t want to upset the players that travel.
I think some of them need to learn to get Travel Insurance and let There insurance know there a sports person and they travel and what’s happened.

Why get insurance when you can just beg everyone else for the hospital bills and the repatriation if needed?

Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
Am hearing that a number of Jacklin sponsored players had booked for this. What a surprise and also a disgrace.
