Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
Yes they will get some late entries but cutting the event in half won't attract half as many as it would have done.
Not a single Spanish lady, that list can't be right.

Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
If they didn't have to pay out to the ladies, then would the event have still enough payout money to have a mens/ mixed event?
Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
Crazy.
Yet some on here don't think it's the right time for transparency on what this has cost the BRITISH darts organisation, and others don't care if they have paid.
County money being used again to keep a handful of players happy.

Don't be so ridiculous, this type of process happens all over the business world. A darts organisation accumulates money then reinvests it back into darts shocker.......Skewball wrote:Crazy.

That will be Des's next big initiative after the County Hotel Affiliate scheme a major online insurer will be offering cut price deals for BDO membersBag Carrier wrote: I think some of them need to learn to get Travel Insurance and let There insurance know there a sports person and they travel and what’s happened.

Surely it would be cheaper to have refunded each GB player their travel cost than underwrite this with a non precedent setting substantial 'donation'pootashing wrote:Werent joking when they said 60 players
I wonder if this would of taken place if a certain lady wasn't current involved in a life or death every point matters battle for the final Lakeside qualifying spot ?phil davies wrote:If that’s it then once again 9 women what a joke

Has Des just pissed away thousands of the BICC money to keep the tourney going ahead just so Paula can pick up points to make the lakeside.
Talk about a massive conflict of interests.

Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
45 mens entries and 9 ladies, Hardly worth it really is it and farcical that its a Cat A event, Not sure on the rules but would that mean if entry numbers stayed as they are then everyone there would gain points?
Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
Points arent decided on number of entries, they are decided on payout. If the men's event has a fund of £7k (?) or over it will qualify for Cat A if there are 60 entrants or 6000.
However you can't get points just by turning up (and getting a bye, if applicable), you still have to win at least one match.

Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
Er, there's only 8 women on that list now.
Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
Anyway, this guy is something to do with it and here's an explanation of events.
Matthew J Smith
Look, I'll be straight with you and then you can all go on discussing wether we are wrong or right.
Last year a promoter came to the SDF asking for us to give our permission to hold a ranked event with huge prize money. We agreed as he had held a similar event the year before and he had been informed by players at that event that he would double his entries if he had a ranked event. So we agreed on the proviso that myself and the president of the SDF would oversee the event. We ended up running it. But although a low turnout, it was still an improvement on the previous year, and prizes were paid even though he lost out. It was then that he was told by players present that if he did a double header this year, he would get a huge influx of players to cover costs. We agreed to help him run it and concede the ranking points once more, as we had no reason to disbelieve that it would go ahead. We tried to get a date change as flights to Spain are expensive at this time of year and the majority of spaniards take their vacations. This was denied by the previous bdo board. So we stuck to it. Time went by, and the huge influx of players promised never came. It was this Monday past that he decided to drop the bombshell and directly cancel it. I had no choice but to inform Des and the new committee (Sue Willams answered the phone! - big improvement already) of his decision. Des came straight on the phone and negotiated. The promoter and the SDF accepted the proposal and the event goes ahead, albeit with reduced prize fund and only one ranked event. The reason for his late call i can only assume is down to the hope of the promise of lots of players. It was a gamble on the SDFs part and has cost us, a gamble on his part and thank Des and his negotiations that he hasn't just walked away.

How can Jacklin be allowed to get away with this? An EGM should be called straight away, it is gross misconduct.
