Vizcaya Open 2018
Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
Does anyone even know what the prize fund is?
Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
£20k for everything, I think.BlueSpark wrote:Does anyone even know what the prize fund is?
Mens event would have to be at least £7k for it to have Cat A status.

So the big question is....Ginge wrote:£20k for everything, I think.BlueSpark wrote:Does anyone even know what the prize fund is?

Just how much members' money, from struggling funds has been chucked at a failed tournament with pathetic and dire entry numbers in order to bail out his wife's attempt at Lakeside qualification?
Really? They saved a comp that had 9 OR 10 ENTRIES in the Ladies event. It beggars belief!!!
This is an act of utter corruption and in the real world his head would roll. But this is the BDO where graft and corruption has been the norm for years.

Sweet merciful f.uck!! Why isn't there uproar over this?Ginge wrote:£5k.
I guess people just don't care.

Would be lovely if she loses first match and gets no points at all, despite come straight in at a stage that usually would get you points.

So let's get this right, Mrs Des and a few Lincs hangers on are booked to go to Spain so the BDO have bailed out a tournament with hardly any entries to the tune of £5000?Ginge wrote:That is the figure I have been told. The Jolly Man wrote:How do you know it’s £5kGinge wrote:£5k.

And jollyman said this was not an issue that needed transparency !
Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
For the amount involved it certainly needs transparency, not as if they are putting the stationary order through and no matter what they say it is setting a dangerous precedent.

So was it a sponsor from Spain that paid the money required.?
Re: Vizcaya Open 2018
May have just been the existing sponsor (Winmau) and the BDO have topped it up, no?ChrisW wrote:So was it a sponsor from Spain that paid the money required.?

Good point.

I don't mind per se but if the only reason it has been bailed out is because your wife and mates have booked then that is well dodgy.Skewball wrote:You said you didn't mind yesterday ?!nikkiboy wrote:So let's get this right, Mrs Des and a few Lincs hangers on are booked to go to Spain so the BDO have bailed out a tournament with hardly any entries to the tune of £5000?Ginge wrote:That is the figure I have been told. The Jolly Man wrote:How do you know it’s £5kGinge wrote:£5k.

Only 2 Lincs sponsored players apparently.
Oh and his wife, who needs the points.

Yes, I imagine one of those two statements is of considerably greater importance here than the other.BlueSpark wrote:Only 2 Lincs sponsored players apparently.

Yes really now Paula should do the correct honourable thing to do and withdraw to avoid such accusationsBlueSpark wrote: Oh and his wife, who needs the points.

Anyone know who this "promoter" is?BlueSpark wrote:Anyway, this guy is something to do with it and here's an explanation of events.
Matthew J Smith
Look, I'll be straight with you and then you can all go on discussing wether we are wrong or right.
Last year a promoter came to the SDF asking for us to give our permission to hold a ranked event with huge prize money. We agreed as he had held a similar event the year before and he had been informed by players at that event that he would double his entries if he had a ranked event. So we agreed on the proviso that myself and the president of the SDF would oversee the event. We ended up running it. But although a low turnout, it was still an improvement on the previous year, and prizes were paid even though he lost out. It was then that he was told by players present that if he did a double header this year, he would get a huge influx of players to cover costs. We agreed to help him run it and concede the ranking points once more, as we had no reason to disbelieve that it would go ahead. We tried to get a date change as flights to Spain are expensive at this time of year and the majority of spaniards take their vacations. This was denied by the previous bdo board. So we stuck to it. Time went by, and the huge influx of players promised never came. It was this Monday past that he decided to drop the bombshell and directly cancel it. I had no choice but to inform Des and the new committee (Sue Willams answered the phone! - big improvement already) of his decision. Des came straight on the phone and negotiated. The promoter and the SDF accepted the proposal and the event goes ahead, albeit with reduced prize fund and only one ranked event. The reason for his late call i can only assume is down to the hope of the promise of lots of players. It was a gamble on the SDFs part and has cost us, a gamble on his part and thank Des and his negotiations that he hasn't just walked away.
Have the Spanish been "Warren Browned", as it were?
