Definitely. Otherwise why bother.

I assumed the sponsor in the press release was referring to the existing ones, who have merely reduced their financial input.

The July post on their FB page stated it was sponsored by Winmau.

If we marry that with the rumour of Winmau removing sponsorship are we jumping to conclusions?

From the press release:
Assurances from the event sponsor have been received in writing alongside a guarantee prize fund that a Category A event requires
The event already has a sponsor so no need for the BDO to pay anything in. Anyone who thinks they have is a total idiot.
I may have to revise this opinion based on new info. Consider me an idiot now...

Been told that a four figure sum has been lobbed in the direction of the Spaniards to keep the event afloat.

Yep, can't see what Des has done wrong here. I'm sure his new Finance Director would have raised the alarm if he'd tried to waste any money on this ;-)

Whatever the numbers registered, this was an important weekend for both the main and Western Europe table, with the 2nd highest prize money for an open weekend outside UK. In his first week in charge he wouldn't want an event cancelled at the last minute - Des Jacklin, man of action!
Des saved the tournament and now he feels epic....
Will you feel epic when you have to hide under your kitchen table again?
I'll never understand the mentality of those who want to 'jump in the car and sort people out'

Seems quite sad to me Dave, what do you think?
Is this the popcornmoment?

So it's at least £10.00 Des has squandered away so far

Apparently all with the support & approval of TT and WCDPA .....

So is this a right or wrong time to be transparent about use of Bdo funds?
He can’t be expected to give a running account of everything he does on a daily basis. I am sure the rest of the board knew before doing this and at the next agm or delegate meeting he will be transparent over these big decisions and many others

Happy that 5 grand has been frittered away keeping the event on.
Well, half of it anyway...

Crazy eh.

Let’s hope there is a repayment package in place.

Wouldn’t want to upset the players that travel.

I think some of them need to learn to get Travel Insurance and let There insurance know there a sports person and they travel and what’s happened.

Why get insurance when you can just beg everyone else for the hospital bills and the repatriation if needed?

Am hearing that a number of Jacklin sponsored players had booked for this. What a surprise and also a disgrace.
